Summer 2 Week 6
This week has been our Forest School time & we have had lots of fun exploring the wood & the orchard. We have shared stories, made music using sticks, hunted for mini beasts, collected some natural materials to create a Gruffalo, investigated fruit trees & plants & had a listening moment to distinguish the many different sounds in Forest school.
Summer 2 Week 5
This week has been a busy one! Transition & Sports week has brought lots of different & exciting experiences.
On Wednesday, some of Elmer class took part in a virtual 'meet my teacher', ready for the big move to school in September. Miss Baron & Miss Hill have also been into the nursery garden to read stories to the class.
We have enjoyed being very active during sports week, trying new skills, taking part in races & learning the importance of being a good sportsperson.
Summer 2 Week 4
This week, we have been exploring the story The Princess & the wizard. We have used our maths skills to count the times Princess Eliza tried to escape. We made predictions about what might happen next in the story, explored colours & learnt about camouflage.
Summer 2 Week 3
This week, we have been sharing the story A Squash & a Squeeze. We have talked about size & capacity, using our skills to fit as many objects into small containers. We used the large boxes to see how many children we could squash & squeeze into them. We also found out about farm animals linked to the animals from the story. We built our own farms out of Duplo & learnt the names of some baby animals.
Summer 2 Week 2
This week we have been exploring the story Zog. We talked about kindness & being helpful, we thought Princess Pearl was brave for stopping her friends from fighting. Once we had explored the text, we acted some of the tasks that the dragons had to learn, like roaring & flying. We used large boxes to create a castle for the princess & built sandcastles from damp sand. Some of the children decided to make props from the story using junk materials.
Summer 2 Week 1
Welcome back to the second half of the summer term. This half term, we are going on a Julia Donaldson Adventure, as a starting point for our learning.
This week we have been exploring the story Room on the Broom, using our imaginative skills to act out parts of the story, our cutting skills to make our own broomsticks, our fine motor skills to create pictures & patterns in magic dust & our gross motor skills to create a large scale 'magnificent broom' out of boxes.
