Autumn 1

Kensuke's Island

As part of our planning process, we have been doing research on the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Island and Papua New Guinea in order to find out what the climate, topography, flora and fauna of the island that MNichael washes up on might be like in Kensuke's Kingdom.

Using this research, children will write their own non-chronological reports on the geography of the island.

Trip to the Mosque

This week we visited the mosque as part of our RE topic: How can a Muslim show commitment to Allah?

During the visit, we learned about the intentions behind wudu and prayer. We talked about the study of Arabic and the Qur'an.

The Y6s listened carefully and respectfully, and were absolutley full of questions. Overall, a fantastic day out!

Life in the Trenches

This week in History, we have explored what life would have been like on the Western Front by reading real-life letters from soliders who were stationed there.

To tie-in to this, our Learning Log homework has been to make a model of a trench. As you can see, we've had some great examples, both in-school and online!

Basketball

We've made a good start to our basketball unit by recapping the fundamentals of dribbling and passing. We have begun to put these together in small group possession games which will develop into more tactical desicion-making skills as the term progresses.
