Autumn 2

Week 7

The Gruffalos and the rest of Key Stage 1 had a ball at our Christmas feast! Great merriment was had with fine food and the very rare option of raspberry juice. Well done to all for excellent manners and thank you to the kitchen staff for a top notch meal!

Here is a great maths money game to play. Please click on the link and then click on the money bank to begin. You can start by sorting money and then move on to counting different coins. Best of luck future accountants!

Many thanks to St Barts for inviting us to their church where we learnt about the building and talked about the Christmas story.

Week 6

The Bag Song | Nick Cope's Popcast | CBeebies

The Gruffalos watched, sang and did actions to this powerful song about plastic pollution in the oceans. They then drew pictures and wrote sentences on how the song made them feel.

The Gruffalos had the pleasure of visiting the Y5's Tudor Museum. This was an incredible interactive experience with dance, stop motion films, actors playing historical roles and fantastic models. Well done Y5s and bravo to the Gruffalos who were full of curiosity and great manners.

Week 5

In maths this week we have been looking at the value of UK coins and finding different combinations to make different amounts. Here we join the Gruffalos working in pairs to investigate different ways of making 10p, 20p or 50p for their piggy banks.

Rama and Sita | Religious Studies - Stories for Collective Worship

This week our ship sails on the Atlantic ocean to the beautiful island of Tobago where there is a large Hindu population. We have arrived just as Diwali celebrations are in full flow! The Gruffalos will research all about this vibrant and wonderful event which celebrates light over darkness and the incredible story of Rama and Sita. Please watch this great BBC cartoon version.

Week 4

Rehearsals for "The Magical Christmas Journey: The Movie" are going triumphantly. We already have 4 songs filmed in the can! We look forward to the 13th of December where it will be premiered on the school website for you to enjoy with your families.

Count by Fives Song / 5 Times Table Song

We have enjoyed counting in 5s this week in our maths CLIC sessions. Please practise at home!

Week 3

In PE this term we are developing our ball control and handling skills using basketballs, spiky balls and footballs. Not only that, we are also very lucky to have Dazzle Dance sessions with Amy. This term we are working together to make an amazing dance for our show "The Magical Christmas Journey"

Week 2

This term our topic is "Land Ahoy!" where we have been tasked by the National Geographic Kids magazine to sail around the world's 5 oceans to report on island cultures, ocean wildlife and the issue of plastic pollution. The first thing we needed to do was design our boat. Here are some excellent designs inspired by various real life ships such as the Sir David Attenborough and Jacque Cousteau's Calypso.

Five Oceans Song

The children have enjoyed singing this song to learn the names of the 5 oceans in our geography lessons

The Gruffalos reached another 100 classwide rewards! This time, the children did a dinosaur jigsaw, played ocean top trumps, painted a giant pencil, did free drawing and built incredible structures out of lego. Well done for having fun but being very sensible at the same time!

Week 1

The Gruffalos finally put on their own Gruffalo show. Excellent vocal and acting skills were on display! The children had lots of roles such as introducing the show, giving a fire safety talk, being police officers, puppeteers, scientists, singers and gift shop owners. There were also two Gruffalos who crept up on some audience members! We also enjoyed watching the fabulous "Smartest Giant in Town" show too. A great afternoon was had by all in our outside theatre in the autumn sun.
