Spellings 15th June

The synonyms and antonyms we are looking at this week relate to mood and are alternatives to the words 'happy' or 'sad'.  Firstly, have a look at the word list and see if you can group the words into the 'happy' group and 'sad' group.  You may need a dictionary to look up the meanings.  If you have a dictionary at home you can use that or you could use this online dictionary.  Have a go at the other activities to help with learning and practising your spellings for this week.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day using the activities to learn your spelling and then ask someone in your household to test you on Friday.

We are continuing our theme in spellings this week looking at synonyms and antonyms.  Click here to recap on the meaning of these terms.  The spelling list this week is a collection of words that are synonyms relating to size.    Firstly, have a look at the word list and see if you can order the meanings of the words from smallest to largest. Is there a right and wrong answer for this?  You may need a dictionary top look up the meanings.  If you have a dictionary at home you can use that or you could use this online dictionary. There are other activities below for you to have a go at to help you learn and practise your spellings.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day using the activities to learn your spelling and then ask someone in your household to test you on Friday.

Spellings week beginning 18th May

This week we are looking back at our words from last week (and the same spelling rules) and turning them into adverbs that end in '-ibly'. 

Your activities this week include a word search, a cloze activity and some handwriting. You do this on screen and copy onto a piece of paper or on a print out.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day using the activities to learn your spelling and then ask someone in your household to test you on Friday. If you find these words too tricky or would like to challenge yourself with some additional spelling words you can find age-appropriate lists on the lockdown learning log

Spellings week beginning 11th May

This week we are looking at words ending in -ible.  It is often easy to confuse words ending in -ible and -able.  In general, words ending in -ible don't have an identifiable root word.  However, there are exceptions to this rule!  

Have a look at the word list and use a dictionary to look up the meaning of any unknown words. If you have a dictionary at home you can use that or you could use this online dictionary. The activities this week include a code word puzzle, a word search and some handwriting which you can either do on screen and copy onto a pad or from a print out.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day using the activities to learn your spelling and then ask someone in your household to test you on Friday. If you find these words too tricky or would like to challenge yourself with some additional spelling words you can find age-appropriate lists on the lockdown learning log.  You can also use the ideas on this video to help you learn your spellings.  

Y6 Spellings 4th May  

For spellings this week we are looking at words with a long /o/ sound  spelt 'ou' or 'ow'.  Have a look at the word list and use a dictionary to look up the meaning of any unknown words. If you have a dictionary at home you can use that or you could use this online dictionary. There are then a few activities for you to have a go at to help you learn these spellings. You don't need to print these out! You can copy out the spellings in your neatest handwriting on some paper.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day using the activities to learn your spelling and then ask someone in your household to test you on Friday. Y6 Spellings 27th April  

Hello Kensukes.  This week we are continuing to look at words that can be used both as nouns and verbs. First, have a look at the example then have a go at creating your own sentences. There are then a few activities for you to have a go at to help you learn these spellings. You don't need to print these out! You can copy out the spellings in your neatest handwriting on some paper.  For the fortune teller, you can follow the instructions to make your own and then use the picture to help you label it.  If you need to look up the meaning of any words you can use this online dictionary.  Try to spend 10 minutes a day practising your spellings then get someone in your household to test your on Friday.
