Mexican Bean Burgers

Well, what a week! First, we had our trip to Las Iguanas to find out about traditional Central and South Amercian cuisine and then we ended the week by making our own bean burgers and then cooking them on the fire in forest school. We were enjoying ourselves so much, that we completely forgot to take any pictures of cooking (or eating) the burgers, but why look at a photograph when you can make them for yourselves?

I've attached the recipe for the bean burgers below (along with some handy reading comprehension questions).

Super Hero Costume Design

We've had a very creative and colourful session in Charlies during our third session with Paper Finch Theatre Company this afternoon.  We were delighted to welcome Maeve Black, a freelance costume designer, into school who came in to class to talk about her work and support the pupils to make their very own super hero costumes. The pupils made some fabulous items and worked hard to get their designs ideas from last week produced into an item for their costume.  We cut and combined pieces of felt to make colourful capes, tops, masks and bracers. Well done Charlies - a fabulous afternoon! And thank you to Joe and Maeve for the brilliant inspiration and providing all the wonderful materials!

Mary Anning

As we close our Rocks, Soils & Mountains topic, we've been looking at fossils and how they were formed. Today we've mentioned Mary Anning and how important she was to the emergent field of palaeontology.

You may not recognise Mary Anning by name, but you'll definitely have heard of her. Mary is the 'she' from the following rhyme:

She sells sea-shells on the sea-shore.
The shells she sells are surely sea-shells!
So if she sells sea-shells on the sea-shore,
Then I'm sure she sells sea-shore shells!

You can watch a video about Mary Anning's life here and read more about her contributions to science here.

What else can you find out about Mary Anning?

Making Our Own Superheroes!

The Charlies have had a fantastic first session with the Paperfinch Theatre this afternoon.  We've designed our own superheroes and created a superpower profile for them.  The children then worked in teams to design their own logo and superhero team name. Very impressive teamwork Charlies!
