World Book Day

We had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day 2024.  The Y6 pupils chose a picture book from the library to read with the children in Elmers. 

What caused the American colonies to seek independence from Britain?

 

On 4th July 1776, the 13 Colonies declared themselves to be their own nation, independent of the British sovereign. The USA was born. In their Declaration of Independence, the ‘founding fathers’ promised “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” As our History topic (Minority Amercia : United States?) goes on, we will explore how well this freedom was applied to 'all men'.

 

During today's lesson, children have linked the consequences of the Seven Years War to a web of events that led to the Declaration of Independence. They have learned that cause and consequence are not as simple as one event leading directly into another.
