Spring 1 Week 6

This week, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We found out that it is the year of the Ox & made our own ox puppets. We watched a puppet show that told the story about how the animals were chosen for the Chinese zodiac (the video is included below). We joined in with some ribbon dancing & used very careful paint strokes to create some Chinese numbers on lucky red paper.

There's a lovely clip on the Cbeebies website about how Abbie & her family celebrate Chinese New Year, if you would like to learn more.

Spring 1 Week 5

This week we have been exploring shapes & attempting to name some. We have hunted for shapes in the classroom, played shape games including, feel & guess the shape, made pictures with shapes & talked about their properties.

Spring 1 Week 4

This week we have been reading some books about the emergency services, in particular Emergency & Flashing Fire Engines. We made some fire fighter hats using paper plates (check out the link below, if you would like to make a similar one at home). We played with the fire station small world set, fighting fires & rescuing people. We created paintings of emergency vehicles, looking carefully at the shapes & colours.

Spring 1 Week 3

This week we have been using our gross motor skills to build. We have explored the building area, making small & large scale buildings such as houses, castles & bridges out of the different bricks & blocks. At the end of the week, we used large cardboard boxes to construct with, it was a lot of fun trying out different ways to build & discover which worked best.

You could try using bricks, blocks or boxes that you have at home to construct a building or tower too.

Spring 1 Week 2

This week, we have welcomed some of our nursery children to the new building. We have spent the week exploring our new surroundings & taking part in some familiar activities while we settle in.
