Summer Term 1 - Minibeasts

Week 6

We have really enjoyed our last week. We have had so much fun over the last 6 weeks looking at Minibeasts. We have learnt lots of new facts and explored 2 beautiful stories. This week, we have read 'The King of Tiny Things'. We created our own Tiny Thing and gave him our very own superpower. The children came up with some fabulous ideas for the powers such as snow, helping people and stealing all of the lights. Have a look at our fabulous creations.

In Maths, we have been bowling! We started with 10 skittle, rolled the ball and counted home many fell down and how many were left. This was great fun and we created a bowling alley and had lots of us bowling at the same time (although it was a shame we don't have the technology from Centertainment to stand them back up!)

The King of Tiny Things crept into our classroom whist we were Dazzle Dancing. We came back and it was very dark. He left some touches for us to experiment with. We learnt all about shadow puppets and tried them out using our hands.

We finished off our Tiny Thing week with a music lesson. The children did a great job copying the Tiny rhythms and learnt The King of Tiny Things very own song.

It has been great to welcome Mr Green to Caterpillars this week. He is here from Sheffield Hallam to find out a bit more about what life in Reception is like.

I hope you have a lovely holiday with your families and we are looking forward to seeing you next week.

Thank you for being amazing Caterpillars

Week 5

We had a fabulous time celebrating Eid at our party this week. We played musical chairs, musical statues, and human noughts and crosses. We had a lot of fun and laughter. We really enjoyed our Eid Lunch and the afternoon snack of a biscuit and raisons. It was great to share an Eid Celebration with each other.

We have been looking at colour mixing with powder paint this week. We have loved watching the shades get lighter or darker as we added more white an black. We have painted pictures of The Bog Baby and cut out our paint washes into bluebell shapes.

In maths, we have been looking taking away. We played subtraction smash by bopping playdough balls to see how many were left.

Have a lovely weekend

Week 4

What a great week! We have had a really lovely week and done some fabulous things.

In maths, we have been telling stories with addition. We played a great game outside rolling a dice and filling in the squares. For example, first we rolled a 5 and put 5 shells in the frame. Then we added 3 more. There were 8 shells all together. We did some great adding.

We had a bit of a disaster this week when we found out that The Bog Baby was missing! They children worked really hard to create a poster of him so other people knew what he looked like. We talked about how to describe what he looks like and also drawing a picture that matches. We have some beautiful artists in Caterpillars as well as fabulous writers.

We wish you and your family a very joyful Eid. Eid Mubarak! We are very excited for our Eid Party on Wednesday next week. Children can come to school in their finest outfits. Read the email letter for more information.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week 3

What a great week with all things Bog Baby. This week we have enjoyed one of my favourite books, The Bog Baby. We have designed our very own houses for The Bog Baby. We thought carefully about what he likes to do and drew our own home for him to live in.

Have a look at these fantastic homes. I would like to live in some of these.

It was really special to give out our first Headteachers award for this fabulous Bog Baby house.

After designing our own, we joined together to make a home designed by all of us. The Caterpillars had some fabulous ideas.

In Maths, we have tried something really clever. We have been making exact copies of shape pictures. We have had to think very carefully about which shapes we will need, where they will go and which way round they need to be.

We loved putting our finger prints on Tennyson Ted. Miss Green has done the most beautiful job painted the bear. We can’t wait to find I’m on the trail this summer in Sheffield.

We have had a very busy week and have some very tired Caterpillars.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week 2

What a great week! We LOVED Dazzle Dance with Amy this week. We really enjoyed her fabulous routines. It was so great to have Amy back with us. She very quickly got us warmed up and moving. It was fabulous. Thank you so much Amy.

We have made the most beautiful minibeasts. We have thought carefully about what features they have and what they look like. They look so beautiful on our garden display in the classroom.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

See you on Tuesday

Week 1

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely holiday. This half term we are continuing our Amazing Adventure theme as we look at minibeasts! We have had a great week exploring the garden and we love the new bike track which has appeared over the holiday. We will use the bikes next week

In Maths, we have been looking at making numbers beyond 10. We had lots of discussions about how to show 11 on a 10 frame and in Numicon.

We have learnt lots of facts about minibeasts already and have drawn beautiful pictures and added some labels.

We found out lots of facts about worms. Did you know they can have up to 10 hearts? No bones? Are one big muscle? We looked carefully at the worms from the compost heap and watched how they moved. We now know they like being in dark places so kept trying to hide from us by wiggling back into the soil.

We had the most FABULOUS Class Wide Reward Party! There are so many of us who haven't been able to have a birthday party over the last year... so we had our own... Caterpillar style! We played pass the parcel, musical statues and sang Happy Birthday to ourselves with our pretend Caterpillar Cake. It was such a joyful afternoon of love, smiles and happiness. Happy Birthday Caterpillars heart
