Hello everyone! This week we will be reading and learning about an event over a billion people celebrate around the world. It is Chinese New Year. This year it is on February the 12th and it is the year of the ox. This week we will study the text, answer questions which will need different reading skills and plan our own New Year party! Today is the pre teach where we will learn about Chinese New Year, look at key vocabulary and read the text. Good luck all!

Finally, today there is an event that people celebrate around the world. It is called Burn's Night. It comes from Scotland and celebrates the life and work of a great poet called Robert Burns. Nowadays, Burn's Night is about a group of people coming together to have fun, eat good food and share their favourite poems. Perhaps your family would like to have a Burn's Night party today or later in the week? If you do, please send us a photo and tell us what poems you read and performed!

Fortune Tales | The Story of Lunar New Year

Y2 Chinese New Year

Make a poster to persuade people to take part in Chinese New Year celebrations. Try to use the word 'because' and use evidence from the text. E.g. 'come along because there will be delicious food, including noodles, chicken and prawns!'

 

Mild - include 3 reasons people should come along.

Spicy - include 4 reasons and use the word 'because.'

Flaming hot! - include 5 or more reasons, using the word 'because' and 'so'
