  • Walkley Primary School Christmas Danceathon

Sun 20 Dec 2020 Mr Wallis

This morning, pupils, parents and staff of Walkley Primary School all met on Zoom to take part in a 1 hour Virtual Christmas Fair Danceathon. All in aid of raising money for mirrors for the new school dance studio.

Over the last few weeks, Friends of Walkley have been getting creative to raise much needed funds for the new school. This morning’s get together was lots of fun (and very tiring)!

Lots of thanks to Amy from Dazzle Dance who led the Danceathon ably assisted by her sister Jo and her mum Lynn. As always Amy, thank you for your support of our school. We can’t wait to see you leading dance classes in our new dance studio, and the mirrors will really finish the room off!

Our wonderful Year 6 carol singers have made an appearance in the National press. The full article can be found here:

A very thoughtful and caring gesture, typical of the Walkley Primary School community. Without doubt, a heartfelt act which was clearly, much appreciated by the staff and residents of 2 Walkley care homes.

  • Thanks for the Memories Video.

Thu 17 Dec 2020 Mr Wallis

As we move to our new school building, let's take a step back and look at our history, from the beginnings of education in Walkey. We'll reflect on the evolution of school life in the buildings and surroundings that have supported the education to thousands of walkley children since 1874.

  • Walkley Pupils Visit Walkley Care Homes To Spread Christmas Cheer

Wed 16 Dec 2020 Mr Wallis
Earlier today, a group of 12 Year 6 children represented Walkley Primary School on a community care home walk. They visited two local care homes - Northfield and Leahyrst, delivering home made Christmas cards made by all the year 6s. The cards were individually written for each resident and carer and contained a heart felt message to spread some festive cheer. The children also sang some festive songs to the residents who listened at their windows. The smiles on the residents faces definitely showed that we achieved our goal of spreading some joy at a very tough time. The residents of both care homes both sent back their own lovely messages to the school. The Daily Mirror were also there to take photographs and report on the community event - watch out for the report in the newspaper in the coming days. Well done to the fabulous group of Year 6 children who represented our school with maturity and sense of pride.
  • Walkley Staff raise funds for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity

Wed 16 Dec 2020 Mr Wallis

Over the past few weeks, the Walkley staff have been doing some fundraising of our own. We have managed to raise over £500 for the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity and therefore acquired a Snowflake decoration to adorn the Hospital building. Here is the message we received from the charity today:

    Dear Walkey staff,

Now our snowflakes are up and making Sheffield Children's Hospital sparkle this December, we wanted to send you a photo of your snowflake for you to keep and remember the good you did this Christmas.  Please pass this onto anyone who had any involvement in your fundraising along with our heartfelt thanks!

Your incredible support of sponsoring a snowflake will go to helping changing our amazing hospital to the best it can be for our patients and families. This includes transforming our cancer and leukaemia ward into a home away from home. We couldn't achieve this without your support and we can't thank you enough especially after such a difficult year for everyone.

A snowflake decoration is in the post and on its way to you and a snowflake plaque will be sent out next year after the deadline for fundraising. If you want to carry on the festivities, you can visit our website for more inspiration via the link below. Just before we all break for Christmas, we still have our Theo’s Big Christmas Quiz and a Christmas Carol Concert to come and would love for you to join us.
