On the 1st October 2026, we held our annual WPS School Council Elections, which forms the Y6 School Council for this academic year. As with every year, Mr. St Nemelc, the Sheffield City Council Representative, returned to Walkley to support the election process. The Y6 candidates produced election speeches which were watched by all the children before Election Day. During the day, each and every Walkley pupil came to the Discovery Zone to place their vote for their chosen candidates. After the votes were counted and verified, the results were announced during an assembly on the following Monday. During the following week, each class (Y1 – Y6) elected two class representatives and one eco-council representative.
This week, the School Council held their first meeting, where each member introduced themselves and their role, and they received their official school council badge, notepad and handbook. The first job on the agenda for the council is the organisation of Children in Need Day (Friday 13th November). Class representatives were instructed to gather the thoughts and ideas from their respective classes about what activities and challenges they would like to do to help raise money for Children in Need, and they will be reporting this back to the council at the next meeting. In preparation for this, the Executive Council have ordered the Children in Need merchandise which will be on sale in school during the week leading up to Children in Need and more information will be sent home after half-term.
The Environmental Officer and Eco Council are due to meet this week (Friday) to discuss their plans for the upcoming year and the Pupil Player Leaders are receiving their training in preparation for leading sporting activities on the playground during lunchtime.
