This week in maths we will be looking at Statistics. This means we will be gathering and looking at data (information) on various things such as "What is your favourite ice cream flavour?", "Which is your tallest toy?" or "What is your favourite insect?". Later on this week we will be having a blast building block graphs and bar charts! Please have a look at the clip below to understand more on Tally Charts and Pictograms.

Today in maths we are going to do a tally chart survey and then present this data (information) as a block chart and bar chart. Please get a piece of paper, watch the video, try the dangermouse game and finally build the charts on the website linked below.

Extra task!: Please go on the BBC's brilliant Karate Cats Maths game for Key Stage 1 children. Then look for the Statistics level where you can test your skills further!
Karate Cats Maths (Please send us screen shots if you can!):
Mild: You could do a survey for people in your house and give them a choice of 4 things. E.G. "Which fruit do you like the best?" or "Which ice cream flavour is the best?" After that, make a block graph either from lego or use one of the websites above.
Spicy: You could measure items like in the video or do a survey with lots of people via phone or email. Try and have numbers higher than 20 in your results. After that, make a block graph either from lego or use one of the websites above. You will need to think about the scale on your chart. Will it be in 2s or 5s?
Flaming Hot: You could research on the internet the speed of different animals or anything you like! Your chart will involve large numbers (50 - 150 or higher!) so you need to think of your scales. Will they be in 5s, 10s or 20s?
