In Summer!!!!

Wow this year seems to have flown by. How can it be the final term already?

We have begun by looking at all the changes that are happening in and around our Nursery Garden. 
The children have loved seeing how much the flowers have grown that they planted before the holidays and what a super maths opportunity to talk about the different sizes of the stems and lengths of the leaves. 
We noticed some of the leaves had been nibbled which guided us into the next part of our learning Which animals live in our garden?

The children thought of lots so we decided to go and look for some. 
Here we are looking for worms!

The children used some fantastic language to talk about what the worms looked like and how they moved. 

We also now have a new addition to the Elmer classroom. Not quite from our garden but small and great to look at and explore.

While playing in our garden, we noticed that our garden shed was a bit poorly. Luckily, we have a very kind daddy, who is also a Carpenter and offered to help us. 
Andy came with all his tools to help us fix the shed. The children listened very attentively as he named, describe and demonstrated the tools he had brought before taking the children outside where they were all able to have a go with the hammer to help fix the shed. 
 

Feeling Hot Hot Hot!

As the weather gets hotter we have needed to cool down and keep occupied in the heat. 
We talked to the children about keeping and hydrated and how important it is to drink lots of water.

we created a water station for the children to be able to pour their own cups of water a great activity for turn taking and sharing, as well as strengthening the muscles in our hands and arms by lifting the heavy jug of water.

Another way we like to cool is to get out our paddling pools.
It creates a fantastic opportunity to use lots of great vocabulary and develop our language skills. alongside this it also covers our maths objectives as we practise filling and emptying containers. 

When the weather gets too much for us, we head back inside to cool down.

We took away the tables to be cooler laying on the floor and created a beautiful, collaborative piece of art. We used paint sticks, Bingo dabbers and large hand crayons. The children loved the freedom of using their imaginations. The large space also allowed them to use larger movements.
