We've been exploring properties of different materials this half-term. This week, we have looked at the solubility of different substances. We discussed how to make the investigation fair. Children then shared their observations in a class discussion about which had dissolved in water to make a new solution and which were simply suspended in water without dissolving.
Some of our very eager Sun Kings have produced some amazing homemade pyramids.
They're phar-oah-t!
In Art this half-term, we have been looking at making our own canopic jars (sans organs). First, we practiced molding pinch-pots with Blu-tak. Then, we used clay to practice making coil pots and sculpting fine details with a variety of clay tools.
Coming up, we will be sketching and annotating designs ahead of producing and painting our final pots.
As part of our English unit on Instructions, children looked at a booklet called: How to Make Dragon Claws. They then evaluated the effectiveness of the instructions, cleverly pointing out that the booklet overly-relied upon diagrams, where clear descriptions of the actions needed would have been better.
This week, we have taken the opportunity to reintroduce everyone to their Google Classroom, Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars accounts.
Everyone is logged on and able to access ahead of their homework on Friday.
We have had a fantastic start to the 2025/26 academic year.
Children have been doing some rarefied reading, super sentence work and terrific telling of the time. They have also done some amazing art work based on parabolic curves, which should already have made their way back home!
