Welcome to our Governors’ section.

 

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor, along with any vacancies on the Board.

 

 

Chair of Governors

 

In October 2018, Andy Wilcock was elected as the new Chair of Governors.

'The role of Governors is to make sure that objectives are met and that planning for the future is both aspirational and realistic.  We are here to support and encourage the Head Teacher, Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff as a ‘critical friend’ to maintain our commitment to achieving the highest standards of education. I believe that Walkley School makes a uniquely, positive contribution to our wider community.' Parent Governor Vacancies - Summer Term 2023 (For Appointment in September 2023-24).

 

We currently have vacancies for two parent governors on the Governing Body, which is open to all parents and guardians of children in this school. Being a governor will afford you the opportunity to help shape and guide the progress of Walkley Primary School.

 

Timeframe for the election process:

 

Wednesday 7th June

Parent nomination forms to be completed and returned to school.

Monday 19th June

In the case of more than two candidates, an election is needed, nomination information and voting paper sent out to parents

Friday 23rd June

  • Voting closes at 3.30 p.m.
  • Votes are counted at 4p.m and candidates informed

 

How to apply

If you wish to stand as a candidate for this interesting and challenging position, please complete the candidate form and return it to the school office either by email to enquiries@walkley.sheffield.sch.uk, or in a sealed envelope (marked “Parent Governor Candidate Form”) by Wednesday 7th June.

 

 

Ballot

If we receive more applications than there are vacancies, a secret ballot will be carried out. Information will be collated and sent out to parents on Monday 19th June alongside a voting paper. All votes should be cast by 3.30p.m. on Friday 23rd June 2023.

The votes will be counted by the Governing Body, Headteacher and Deputy Head at 4 p.m. the same day.

 

A Parent Governor Application form includes:

  • A completed Nomination Form;
  • A small photograph of yourself;
  • A short statement about yourself (including reasons why you wish to become a school governor and how you can contribute to the work of the governing body).

 

Who can stand as and vote for parent governors?

The definition of parent under education law covers:

  • All natural parents whether they are married or not;
  • Any person who has parental responsibility for a child or young person;
  • Any person who has care of a child or young person i.e. lives with and looks after the child.

 

EXCEPT

If s/he is an elected member of the local education authority; (local councillor) if s/he is paid to work at the school for more than 500 hours in any twelve month period beginning on 1 August and finishing on 31 July. (during one academic year)

 

Please note that for the protection of children all governor appointments are subject to DBS and an identity check.
