~ Week 2 ~

This week has flown by!

In art we continued our study of David Hockney and developed our sketching skills! We practised hatching and stippling for effect.

Sketching Skills

Our first writing topic is persuasive writing! We have looked at the persuasive features of adverts ready to write our own next week!

Adverts!!!

In science we started our states of matter topic. We learnt about the properties of solids, liquids and gases and talked about how the particles behave. We sorted different materials and objects before creating freeze frames to show the particles in the three different states!

Science!!! States of matter

In PE we practised our dribbling skills in basketball! We worked together and encouraged each other with kind words and push ups!

Basketball!

In RE we are studying the Christian creation story. We went for a nature walk and looked for natural objects. Chayas chose their favourite object. We then sketched them in our books and wrote about them.

~ Week 3 ~

This week in violins we practised putting our fingers in the correct place and playing a simple melody! We also showed wonderful listening skills. Well done Chayas!

Violins!

In maths this week we built on our knowledge of place value to partition numbers. We chose different number cards and sketched part whole models on our whiteboards to help us partition.

Maths! Partitioning numbers up to 10 000

~ Week 4 ~

In art this week we sketched portraits of different famous figures. We looked carefully at the proportions of the face and thought about the colours and textures we wanted to achieve. Ms Murgatroyd was very impressed by the attention to detail shown. Well done everyone!

In maths we arranged numbers in ascending and descending order. We looked carefully at the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones columns to help us.

Maths ordering numbers!

~ Week 5 ~

In gymnastics we created our own routines using partner balances and movements.

Gymnastics routines!

~ Week 6 ~

On Monday we went to forest school. Linking with our states of matter topic in science we used plastic bags to re create the water cycle on a small scale. We learnt about evaporation and condensation! We also made oobleck out of corn flour and water. We explored how it behaves like a liquid but when we press it, it feels and behaves like a solid.

In maths on Monday we focused on the 6 times table. We learnt a song and did a carousel of activities to help consolidate learning.

This week in maths we have also learnt about Roman numerals. We did a relay race activity in groups - matching the Roman numeral to the correct number.

In art we completed our plans for our final piece. We focused on parts of the face we wanted to practice and sketched ideas we wanted to add to our portrait next week.

On Thursday we went to forest school! We made Roman shields and practised battle formations. We marched around the field as a Roman battalion before practising a protective formation in the face of attack by bean bag! We had lots of fun!
