Welcome to the Aeronauts

Forest School 

We really enjoyed our time at forest school. We got the big parachute out and played some games. In the forest area, we built small shelters for hedgehogs. 

In the forest, we made a birds eye view map of our school. We used a map to help us. 

We used a compass to find North.

Citizenship

We discussed how everyone is unique and that everyone is good at something but nobody is good at everything. We wrote down three things we were good at and one thing we would like to get better at.

Recorders

Today was our first recorder lesson. The children were fantastic. We all learned the note B and did some amazing singing. 

Science

In science we are learning about living things and their habitats. We sorted pictures into things that were living, dead and those that had never been alive. The class worked really well in their groups and we had some great discussions.

We have had a fabulous first week in the Aeronauts. We have done lots of fun and exciting activities.  

English 

We went on a hunt for a hedgehog. We found a lovely hedgehog and then we brought it into the classroom so we could describe it features.

After reading our new book , Scaredy Squirrel, we pretended to be new reports and Scaredy Squirrel. We asked Scaredy why he was so scared of everything.

We learnt what instructions were and then we looked at the features instructions. We then got given a set of instructions cut up and in groups we put them back together in the correct order.

Star Group 

We read the book All the Ways to be Smart. We acted out a freeze frame from the book and then everyone had to guess what part of the book the freeze frame was from.

We read the poem On the Ning, Nang, Nong. We read it together as a class, then groups performed it to the class. 

Computing

We learnt how to change the colour of text, the font and we learned how to make it bold too.

P.E

We used different types of equipment to see which would roll best. We decided the beanbag was the worst thing to role as it didn't go very far.

We practised our overarm and underarm throwing. 

We learnt how to strike a ball towards a target using a golf club. There were some great golf skills on show.

After we had practised aiming an object at a stationary target, we then practised throwing a ball at a moving target.

Maths 

We have been using numicon to make bonds to ten and twenty.

We partitioned numbers using the dienes.

Art

We are learning all about Yayoi Kusama. We looked at her work and try to draw like her.

We practised using plasticine. We rolled it, made it into an ball and then we made a sculpture.  

This week we made our sculptures which will go into our infinity rooms.

History 

We leant all about the invention if the phone. We looked and played with old phones to see what they used to be like.
