Autumn 2, Week 5

This week has been Forest School for the Year 4 classes. On Friday, the Charlies put their estimating skills to the test by trying to find objects of a specific size around the Forest School site. This was a competitive exercise in pairs and trios, with points available based on how close the items were to the target sizes.

The winning teams will be announced next week, once Mr. Gamage has done the maths...

Here are the children in action.

Autumn 2, Week 3

On Wednesday, as part of our writing unit (a biography of the Roman Emperor, Julius Caesar), the children studied information placed around the classroom to answer quiz questions about his life. The children made a choice to either work individually, or to team up with a friend. And here they are...

We have also had a go at making stop-frame animations in our current Computing unit, using iPads.

Here is an example...

This week in Guided Reading the children have been reading an abridged version of ' Julius Caesar ' by William Shakespeare. After reading the first part of the text, the children had to use the clues to infer whether Julius Caesar should be murdered. We used a technique called ' Conscience Alley', where one child walked down the middle of 2 lines of children. Each child gave their own opinion and persuade the child to their point of view. Watch the videos below.

Autumn 2 Week 1

Welcome to the run up to Christmas. We hope you had a restful holiday.

On Wednesday, the Charlies had the opportunity to share their reading with children from the Jolly Posties. The Charlies took their reading books and read to the younger children, whilst the younger ones then had the chance to read their Read, Write Inc books to the older children. It was a positive experience for both classes, which will be repeated every two weeks. Here are some of the partnerships in action...

We have an example of a model of that one of our lovely children created. It shows a Roman aqueduct for channeling water to the boathouse. A super effort!

In our Guided Reading, we have been reading a poem by Valerie Bloom called ‘ We don’t believe! ‘. The children discussed the poem and explained whether they liked or disliked it.

In our Literacy, we have started our narrative writing unit, ‘ The mouse, the bird, the snake and the wolf.’
