Autumn 2

Art Showcase

Thank you to all the adults who attended our World War Art Showcase. The children were so proud to share their artwork with you. Your support meant so much to them and we appreciate you helping make the event a special and memorable experience!

Well Done to all our Y6 pupils for proudly sharing their work to all adults who visited - you’ve all worked incredibly hard throughout our History and Art units preparing for this.

Science - Light

This week, Year 6 have been learning about light and reflection by making their own periscopes. Using mirrors and card the children explored how light can be reflected to help us see over and around objects. We also discovered how soldiers in WW1 used periscopes in the trenches to safely look over the top without being seen. The class really enjoyed this hands-on science activity!

Reading Buddies

We started our new term with our reading buddies Storytime. The Y6 came to the Borrowers classroom to listen to the Y3s read and give support. This is a great way to build our reading community across school and we can’t wait for the next session!

Art

Here are our final art pieces using watercolour inspired by Horace Pippin and Paul Nash. A lot of hard work has gone into these designs and we are really proud of our final pieces.

Science - Light

Year 6 carried out experiments to investigate how light travels in straight lines. Using torches and cards with small holes, the children worked carefully to line everything up so the beam of light could pass through and hit a target. They discovered that if the holes weren’t perfectly aligned, the light couldn’t travel through showing clearly that light moves in straight lines.
