Spring 1 Amazing America

Week one

It has been a busy week in Tyger class; you can see a snapshot of the things we have been up to below. I am really enjoying getting to know the children, they have been fantastic.

We played some maths games to check our times table recall. Bingo was pretty popular!

In groups children worked on a challenge to build the tallest working lighthouse -out of a limited supply of newspaper, scrap paper and sellotape. They were very competitive!

We have been up in the ‘forest’ this week doing activities related to our maths unit on measures. We have been busy estimating and measuring length, circumference, mass, volume and capacity.

We warmed ourselves up with a hot chocolate (after estimating the capacity of the cup and the volume of squirty cream!)

Week three

We met up with our year 3 reading buddies again for a super reading session.

In Science we have been reminding ourselves of the main organs of the human body. We are going to be looking in more detail at the Circulatory System.

In maths we have started a topic on ratio. Here we are busy doing some practical work and also working on scale drawings and enlargements:

We had a great time baking biscuits for our Classwide Reward Party.

Bouldering Competition

Some of our Y5 & Y6 pupils were lucky enough to participate in a bouldering competition. Well Done to all those who took part – there were some tricky climbs!

Edale 2026

Year 6 - what an amazing time we’ve had at Edale, and we couldn’t be prouder of you all!

You pushed yourselves to try new challenges, from welly wanging and teamwork games to a night hike on the very first evening (no photos of that one I’m afraid!). You showed incredible bravery abseiling at Monsal Head, squeezed your way through some very tight crevices while weasling, focused brilliantly during archery, navigated the youth hostel site through map reading to complete some orientering and worked together to conquer Jacob’s Ladder! So many of you stepped outside your comfort zones and showed real courage and determination in trying something new.

It was definitely wet and muddy at times, but you simply got on with it and made the most of every moment. Your positive attitudes, encouragement of one another and teamwork were fantastic to see.

You should be incredibly proud of yourselves - we certainly are! 🌟
