In Maths we investigated a question, “Is the total length of our thumb and fingers the same as the length of our arm?” We used our measuring skills to find out.

In English, we have started learning 'There's a Rang-tan in my Bedroom'  as we plan to write letters to palm oil companies to ask them to stop cutting down the rainforest. We worked in groups to learn the poem and then performed with fluency. Everyone in the Borrowers feels very passionate about the plight of the orangutans so I am sure they will produce some amazing letters.

In DT we made our brilliant boxes. We measured and drew nets, then scored, folded and stuck to create our 3D structures. We then decorated the boxes. They look fab!

We hosted an extra special reading buddies this week and invited our parents in. It was lovely to share the supportive atmosphere with our parents. It’s a very special time in our week and I hope parents come back!

Absolutely amazing writing in the Borrowers this week. They have learned how to use speech with incredible accuracy and their vocabulary is phenomenal!

We have started our violin lessons! Today we leaned the parts of the violins and played a simple tune using our fingers to pluck the strings.

Week 5

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

We used the forest as the set for our rainforest weather forecasts. Although it might have been a little colder than the rainforest, we used our imaginations and gave clear and concise weather forecasts for the Amazon Rainforest.

We have also been working really hard at finishing our computing projects this week. We composed pieces of music that we thought would fit the mood of Mariokart and then changed the tempo to suit the different clips that we used. I have compiled all of the projects into one clip and I'm sure you will agree that they fit to the clip very well! Some amazing compositions!

To help secure our understanding of using speech in narratives, we worked together to unscramble sentences in English. We ordered the words, added the punctuation and read the sentences to check that they made sense

Week 4

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

In citizenship we thought about our different emotions. We concentrated on Focus and what we needed to help us focus. We read the book, Albert’s Quiet Quest to find out strategies to help improve our focus.

In Maths, we loved our investigation about division with remainders. We used sticks or pencils to see how many squares we could make and how many we had remaining.

In DT we measured and drew nets to practice the skills we will need to make our brilliant boxes. We thought about the straps and made a pathway to help us remember. We really worked on our resilience if it went wrong!

In English we have started reading the amazing book, The Tin Forest, which is one of our Y3 recommended reads. This morning we listened to the description on the first page and visualised what the setting would look like.

In maths we used our instruction pathways to help us remember how to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We used our maths resources to practice this.

Week 3

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

This term we are making 'Brilliant Boxes' in DT. We are intending to make a trinket box for ourselves to keep all of our most precious objects.

We started off by learning about 3D shapes and how to construct them. We made nets and experimented building with different construction sets.

In maths we have been learning how to multiply two digit numbers. We used the base 10 with a sprinkle of teamwork to help us become confident mathematicians.

In reading, we have continued practising our fluency with some reading theatre. We practised a page of The Lorax so that we could read smoothly and with expression. We then performed to the class.

Week 2

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

We worked together to unscramble sentences in English. We ordered the words and read the sentences to check that they made sense

In Geography we learned about the 4 layers of the rainforest and created rainforest collages to help us understand which animals live in which layer and why. We the used our new topic book, Up in the Canopy, to help us research why animals live in the different layers.

Week 1

Happy New Year!

We thought about goals for the New Year and created pathways to help us achieve them.

In English, we are using the book Up in the Canopy to help us write setting descriptions of the rainforest. We worked in teams to immerse ourselves in the beautiful illustrations of the book and begin to collect ideas.

In computing we have started our music project. We used Chrome Music lab to create short compositions. Use the link to have a go at home.

In PE we started learning the basics of golf. We avoided hazards by aiming and using control to hit the ball.

In reading we are reading Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. We used the thesauruses to lookup words that describe our landscapes.
