Spring 2

In gymnastics this week, we were practising holding our shapes for 5 seconds: Pike, Tuck, Straddle, Dish, Star and Arch, on different pieces of equipment.

Lego club this week was all about flags. Dr. Sheldon Cooper could feature these in his 'Fun with Flags' podcast!

When we first learn to measure length and height, we begin using non-standard units. In the forest the children used their hands as the first unit. Next, they tried using leaves, then they were using small sticks.

It's a new term of Lego club! Due to popular demand, week one has become: Build whatever you like. Week two has most people's firm favourite: building a car that goes the furthest. These were the contenders before the race.

This term in PE, we are learning Gymnastics. The children have been exploring and developing basic gymnastic actions on the floor and using low apparatus. The children were able to showcase basic skills of jumping, rolling, balancing and travelling. They are even able to combine these to create movement sequences.

In English we read the book 'Beegu' by Alexis Deacon. Beegu is from another world and somehow gets lost on Earth. Lonely and confused, she wanders off to a nearby city to find some friends. The children are learning how to use inference and talk about how characters feel in certain parts of the book. They were able to act out the scene and tell us the characters' emotions.

We were so lucky to have the Y6 Kensukes partner reading with us! They were amazing. The children loved working together.

In Science the children have been learning about how animals survive in winter. They worked well together to organise the animals into different groups - hibernate, migrate or adapt
