Spring 2

Happy World Book Day!!!

Or Week!

This week we have celebrated World Book Day in style. Because our children are with us on different days, we decide we would have a World Book Week. We invited our parents to come into Elmers to read with us and it was just lovely. The children enjoyed showing their parents around their classroom and finding different places to share our lovely books with them.

We finished the week with a big World Book Day dress up. The children looked amazing and were all keen to share which character they were and talk about their favourite books.

On that farm...

It's ... Chickens!

Continuing our Farm Topic this week but this week the children have been looking at chickens. We have been learning some new words - Beak, Wings, Tail, Feathers, Peck.

We have read the story - Rosie's Walk enjoying making predictions about what will happen to the naughty fox and looking at what Rosie sees as she walks around the farm.

Fine Motor (Physical)

Strengthening our fingers making chickens in the playdough. We had to think carefully about what the chicken looked like and the different features we would need. Lots of opportunities for practising our new words too.

Creative/DT

We made our very own hens that peck when they are pushed. We used our pincer grip to pick up the feathers and stick them to the body and thought carefully about what colours we might see on a chicken.

Pancake Day

The World

One of our favourite times of year. The children have loved our pancake day activities. We have role played making pancakes, mixing, adding the ingredients and serving them with some delicious syrups.

We talked about the ingredients we would need to make a pancake, exploring our eggs and looking at the colours and texture. Eventually we made our own real pancakes and they were a huge success.

I wonder if you can remember what ingredients we needed?

Physical Development and Maths

We are always practicing our physical skills in Elmers this week, we half been building towers and counting the number of bricks we used, playing hopscotch, jumping on the numbers and saying the number names and lots more practise waking across our balance beams.

Social and Emotional learning

The boys decided to pretend to be teachers today. They created their own school with the puppets and enjoyed roleplaying a circle time with their favourite class colour monster Monty. They said hello to all their children and then checked in on the children looking a bit upset.

And on that farm...

We have started our new topic all about farms. The children have enjoyed singing the song Old Mac Donald and role playing with the toy farm.
