We carried on our Science learning in the forest today. We dissected flowers and labelled parts of them that are involved in pollination such as the anther, stigma, style and ovary.
In computing we finished our top trump cards. We used the Yorkshire Wildlife Park website to collect information and then recorded this on individual top trump records. We then used our top trumps to play games using our ‘connect backpack’.
In maths, we have started learning about Mass. We weighed different classroom objects to investigate the mass.
As part of our RE curriculum we visited St Bart’s to learn about the Easter Story.

Our author/illustrator visit from the amazing Bethan Woolvin was so much fun! We learned about being a creative writer and all of the steps to publishing a book. We then got to make our own creative collage.
Our trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park was fantastic! We saw so many animals and even got a chance to handle some rainforest creepy crawlies in our special Rainforest session. What an amazing day out!
This week in Citizenship we looked at the emotion, fear. We thought about how we might make our fears funny so that they didn’t seem so scary anymore.

In reading buddies we have been working on our Oracy skills. We had a ‘book chat’ before starting to read to explore the book a little deeper and explain our choices.

In English we have been further developing our oracy skills and collaborating on a ‘fed in facts’ activity. We worked in groups to share any facts that we knew about sloths. We then watched different videos or read information from National Geographic to inform us and feed in more facts. We then categorised these and finally made chatterboxes to present what we had learned. Great collaboration and speaking and listening!

Such amazing creativity and imagination in our World Book Day costumes! Well dine everyone for getting involved and celebrating books together.
We introduced our focus author, Laura Ellen Anderson and looked at one of her wonderful books, Rainbow Grey. We designed our own Weatherlings using different weather magic. So much imagination and creativity was flying around the classroom!
We also of course spent lots of time reading our books!
In citizenship, we looked at the emotion sadness and thought about how we all feel this emotion but that it is always temporary. We looked at the book A Shelter for Sadness and we drew what we thought it would look like. We then gave it a shelter to keep it safe when we don’t need it.
A Shelter for Sadness: Kids Book Read Aloud, English stories, #bedtimestories #reading #readaloud
"Profoundly moving and full of depth.... gently explores the need to accept sorrow, live alongside it, rather chase and cure." Sadness has come to live with me, and I am building it a shelter. I can visit it whenever I need to. whenever it calls to me.
