Summer 1

Week 1

We were lucky to have Mr Wilcock and Mr Davies come and visit us to retell the Easter Story. The children listened very well and enjoyed the fuzzy felt puppet show!

In PE we have started our new Athletics topic. Today we learnt how to sprint faster by using long strides, keep our knees high and move our hands from pocket to mouth. Here are the class doing races, relays and a game called "beat the cone!"

The children have thrown themselves into our coding computing topic! They have already been able to program a sprite to move, change size, make noises and move to different backgrounds. Well done all!

In DT, the children have finally completed their designs. Well done all for excellent sewing and cutting of fabrics. The brief was to design a puppet for a 7 year old and I think they all met this very well!

Week 2

The Owl and the Pussy Cat

The children have really enjoyed learning and performing the Owl and the Pussy Cat poem. Currently they are in the process of writing their own poem inspired by this piece of literature with different animals and rhyming words.

Week 3

In Computing we were looking at algorithms and predicting what the outcome would be. We then made codes on Scratch Jr and saw if our predictions were correct.

In PE the children held lots of positions in our yoga lesson. We went on a safari, to a farm and to the Arctic doing positions such as the "elephant", "iceberg", "tree" and "seal". Afterwards, we did a bit of minecraft yoga!

Week 4

In music we have been continuing our recorders lesson with the Sheffield Music Hub. Great use of B,A and G!

In maths we looked at measuring volume and capacity. We did a series of fun activites such as making magic potions, filling a 2 litre container with table spoons and pouring vessels full, half full, three quarters full and a quarter full.

In PE, we learnt how to throw over arm and under arm for different distances. The children did a great job focusing on their stance and follow through. We also revisited jumping from the last lesson!

Week 5

In yoga today we went to the desert! We revisited some of the positions from last week and then practiced and held new positions such as the sand dune, cobra and the camel. Well done all!

In computing we were designing our own quizes where we asked questions about which habitat different creatures lived in. We used code to change backgrounds, move sprites (characters) and insert captions. Great work all!

Five Oceans Song

The Y2s have been doing a great job in their oceans topic. This week we looked at the different hemispheres of the world, different climate zones and different countries which are next to oceans. Here is a great song to remember our 5 outstanding oceans!

Week 6

In forest school we looked at measuring things in centimetres and metres. The class did a great job measuring items, completing worksheets and enjoying the sunshine!

In art we continued to hone our collage skills. Some children made abstract pieces, whereas others did collages of animals or landscapes.

In Science we looked at seed dispersal and made our own "helicopters" based on the incredible way sycammore trees spread their seeds. Well done all for enjoying yourselves in the sunshine!

In forest school today the children used a map of the school to complete an orienteering course. Well done all for using landmarks and turning the map to the way you are facing.

In our final forest school session we performed the Storm Whale story in groups and did a traffic survey. We also did a teamwork activity using the parachute where we needed to work together to send a ball to a particular person.

In PE today we completed our athletics topic. The children did a great job showcasing their jumping and throwing skills. The children also did a marvellous job of explaining their follow through and stance.
