Summer 1

Geography | KS1 | KS2 | Cities, towns and villages | BBC Teach

In Geography we have been looking at the differences between Cities, Towns and Villages. We looked at London, Sheffield, chesterfield and Low Bradfield. Where is your favourite city, town or village?

Science. We have been looking at identifying different types of trees. What trees can you see on your way home?

In PE this term we have been practising tennis skills. We learned how to show a ready position and how to trap a ball with our racket safely. Can you practise any of these skills at home?

In art this week we have learned about colour mixing and how to make colours from primary colours. We then practised making different shades of green. What are the primary colours? What colours do they mix to make?

In forest school we went fishing. We had to find the right sticks and tie our own knots. We caught lots of fish.

In English this week we have read The Gingerbread Man and acted it out using small puppets we made. Which character were you? Can you retell the story to someone at home?

For forest school maths we practised making arrays using sticks or leaves. Can you remember what a row or a column is? Can you draw or make your own array for 5 groups of 4?

We have been very lucky to enjoy our Forest School week in the sunshine in Anansi class! On Monday we had forest school art where we looked at the beautiful view from our hill. We drew the shapes of the hills and added details of the foreground that we could see. What did you spot? What can you see from your house?

ANANSI Year 1 man on the moon

English.

Over the last two weeks, we have been reading the story Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram. We read the story, explored the story, practised our writing with the story, and finally we recounted the story all by ourselves. Today, I asked Anansi class if they wanted to share what they had produced. Please enjoy our video.

Today we started using the Bee-Bots and learning how to control robots in computing.

We have been learning how to program the beebots. We have learned how to use the forward and backwards command. We have been exploring and predicting where that the bots will go when we give them instruction.

In citizenship, we have been looking at screen time and how to be safe when using devices. It is important to take breaks, to be kind with others and to share with adults, what we are doing on devices. We practised on how to recognise being overwhelmed, and how to calm ourselves down
