Week 4
Science
As part of our 'What happens to the food we eat?' science unit, we have begun an investigation into the potential causes of tooth decay. Using six eggs as teeth, we have immersed them in six different liquids to see what effect the liquid has on the egg. The liquids are; tap water, semi-skimmed pasteurised milk, fresh orange juice, fresh apple juice (both from concentrate), classic Coca Cola and Lucozade. After just 48 hours, we can see significant changes caused by some of the liquids. We also discussed the ingredients of the drinks and what a 'recommended daily amount' and a 'serving' means. We will keep you informed...
We have also been making cards for Eid. Have a look at the great examples below.
Art
Our latest art unit is 'Sculpture'. We have discussed what sculpture is and briefly studied the work of Sokari Douglas Camp, who was born in Nigeria and now lives and works in the UK. She predominantly works with welded metal.
As part of our sculpting journey, we have been exploring the manipulation of clay.
Week 3
In Maths, the children have been comparing decimal numbers and explaining which number is bigger or smaller.
Also, we have been looking at Anglo - Saxon artefacts and using them to decide who may have been buried at Sutton Hoo.
Week 2
This week in Forest School, we have been learning all about compass directions. The children used their knowledge of compass points to create their own compass using materials from the forest.
Also, we have been dividing decimals by 10.
Week 1
I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday! The children are experts on Kennings, which are poems that were popular in Anglo - Saxon times. This week, we have been rehearsing, improving and performing the poems. |Their performances are amazing - it will not be long before agents from Hollywood are ringing for contract deals.
