How we Assess Science at Walkley

Each lesson includes a Key Question and remember tos will identify the key steps of learning in the lesson. Pupils will self-assess against these remember tos and staff will mark the pupils work indicating their agreement with the pupil’s own self-assessment.

Science learning is captured through a combination of work in books and photographic or video evidence on the class website pages. Key Stage two pupils will predominantly capture their learning in individual work books and evidence includes writing, charts, calculations, diagrams and photographs.

At the end of each unit in the science curriculum, pupils will complete a science quiz/ assessment to show what they have remembered, understood and know. Class teachers will use this to inform their teacher assessments for each pupil. Teachers will also use observations and contributions during class discussions, during investigations and practical activities to assess the pupils conceptual understanding and skills in working scientifically.
