In Science we have been learning about human body parts. The children worked really well with a partner to label the human body. Excellent use of their reading skills!
This term in Geography, year one have been learning geographical skills and carrying out fieldwork: using world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, using simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language [for example, near and far; left and right], to describe the location of features and routes on a map. They have been using aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devising simple maps; and using basic symbols in a key. We have gone around the school using simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of the school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment.
In RE we have been thinking about Christian beliefs about creation. The children learnt that Christians believe we should look after the world and each other. Here the children are, acting out a scenario where one child is showing kindness without the expectation of anything in return (agape).
In Science, the children have been learning about animal diets. In groups, they sorted animals into the three groups: carnivore, herbivore and omnivore.
This week in Lego club the children were asked to build their perfect boat that would rescue them from a desert island. Some went for speed, others luxury..
Well done to everyone who has logged into Google classroom. I can see all of your answers and how hard you are trying. Thank you also to your grown-ups who are uploading your photos of your home learning. Your letters to Mr Wallis are being hand delivered and he loves them!
This term in computing, we are learning how to communicate text and images on the ipad. This week, the children were learning how to use the tools on Doodlebuddy and were challenged to draw a picture of their favourite foods. Can you guess each food?
In RE we have been learning and acting out the Christian creation story. Here the children are creating freeze frames of the different parts.
First rule of Lego club is.... don't talk about.....wait a minute, that's the wrong club. The first rule of Lego club is have fun! Second rule is to ask if someone is already using a part if it is near somebody. Playing with Lego is great for fine motor skils, creativity, physics and social skills. This week's theme was cool cars!
This term we were getting used to forest school and its rules. We had lots of different lessons there including a place value lesson using natural objects. We also found some time for some 'fishing'.
This term's PE block is 'Fundamentals'. In this unit the children will be learning the fundamental skills of balancing, running, changing direction, jumping, hopping and skipping. This week we focused on balancing and jumping.
The children have been learning what Science is. They did a scavenger hunt and found some items related to our Science for the year. Then they shared knowledge and questions about our first unit, animals including humans.
Our first day of place value was all about sorting. Could the children find different ways to sort manipulatives? Some chose colour, some chose type of creature, some even chose extinct and not-extinct.
Welcome to the Jolly Posties' blog page. Here, I will try to keep you updated on what we have been learning in class. Here is our new cohort.
