Our final week of Autumn 1!
What a busy half term! Well done for getting there - enjoy your break...
A highlight of this last week was the firing up of a steam engine to demonstrate how heat energy can be turned into movement by causing liquid water to evaporate into water vapour, in our Science lesson.
There's a video below of the machine in action...
Week 6
Yippee! The Romans have finally arrived, tried to invade and were sent packing by those plucky Celts ( especially the Silures from South Wales - Mr Rist's ancestors).
What a great day was had by all! We did everything from learning Roman battle tactics, playing Roman board games, going on an archaelogical dig to marching like a Roman legion
As well as our Roman day, we have also had our Forest School. The children had to make a arrow trail using sticks. One person in each group had to walk the trail giving directions, ie turn left, a quarter turn, half turn etc. Fortunately, nobody got lost!
Romans!
Our Roman workshop day didn't quite work out as planned, owing to issues in the plant room overnight. However, our Year 4 team came to the rescue and laid on a slightly different Roman experience instead.
We enjoyed dressing in Roman-style clothes, explored modern-day Rome through photographs, formed a small Roman army and created decorative 'mosaic floors'. Here are some photographs from the day.
Week 3
This week, we have been marching in a tortoise formation as Roman soldiers. The children were superbly synchronised, showed perfect discipline and were a fighting force to be reckoned with. Plus, they had a lot of fun doing it!
Week 2
What a great beginning to the new school. Myself and Mr Gamage have been very impressed with the Charlies. They are trying so hard all the time and more importantly having lots of fun!
This half - term our Maths topic is Place Value. As you can see from the photos, the children have been making 3 digit numbers with place value counters. Well done everyone!
Also, the children were incredible on Monday for swimming. Everyone brought their swimming costume - that is unheard of! Even though they were nervous and some were reluctant to get in the water, everyone managed those first little steps.
Day One...
What an amazing first day together in the new Charlies community! Today we have gained our first FOUR (yes, 4!) Classwide Rewards of the year and created posters for our classroom, where we can record our progress. Some children worked on these independently, whist others collaborated in pairs.
There are some important timetable features to note; on Monday afternoons, starting this Monday (9th September) we will be swimming at Zest. Parents should have received electronic communication from our lovely office staff, and in addition, children took paper copies of the letter home tonight. Also to note is that Thursday afternoons are our 'other' PE day and children will need to come in to school in their PE kit (please see the school's website for instructions on preparation for PE lessons).
We are really looking forward to the rest of the year getting to know each other. Here are some pictures of the children in class today...
