What a fabulous week we have had in Chameleons. The children have settled in so well, we are so proud of them.
We have had a busy week. We have been on a tour of the school, played on the trim trail, played lots of getting to know you games and explored our classroom.
The children have learnt our school rules and of course... enjoyed our first lunch.
They are doing so well and we can't wait to see what the year ahead holds.
Well done everyone!
Week 2
Take a look at what we have been up to in Chameleons this week...
Week 3
This week we have been reading stories and learning all about our similarities and differences including; appearance, likes and dislikes. To celebrate all being from the same class but being different in our own way, we decorated our own chameleons using our favourite colours and patterns.
Week 4
In phonics this week, we have learnt the sound m, a, s, d, i, t, n, p. First, we had a go at matching objects to the letters using their initial sounds. We have also enjoyed blending CVC words using the first 5 sounds using magnetic letters and the pirate treasure game on phonics play.
In Maths this week, we have been learning about matching using the vocabulary of; half, whole, pairs, the same and different. We matched pairs of socks together and discussed how they were the same. Then the children helped Mrs Whittaker to understand why her socks were not the same and did not match! During continuous provision, we matched dominoes, picture cards, shapes, Numicon and our photos, each time discussing how they were the same or different. When looking at our photos we noticed that two halves made one whole but each half of our face was slightly different to the other. We also talked about how we are all unique and different to one another.
Week 5
This week in math's we have been sorting objects according to their; shape, colour and size. We had a go at some 'odd one out' questions to spot which object had been sorted incorrectly. We also tried to guess how Mrs Whittaker had sorted the objects using our reasoning skills.
In PE this week we have been learning how to jump in and out of hoops. We had great fun playing games surrounding bedtime and getting ready for school as we had a pyjama day for our class wide reward!
Week 6
In Art this week, we have been learning about the author and illustrator Eric Carle to link in with our class book 'The mixed up Chameleon'. We had a go at colour mixing and creating texture with tools to paint a piece of paper. We then worked in groups to collage an animal from the story using our textured paper. We focused on our cutting skills to cut up the paper into pieces to be glued on to the collage.
In topic this week, we went to visit Forest School. On the way we looked out for signs of Autumn and took photos using the iPads. Once in Forest School we found some fruit trees. We picked some apples to bring back to school to make apple porridge. This linked in with our learning around the celebration of Harvest.
Week 7
This week we have been learning all about Diwali and Bonfire Night. We were lucky enough to speak to a real fire fighter and learn about how to be safe around fireworks. We talked about our past experiences of fireworks, role played firefighting scenarios and created firework pictures. We also read some books and watched some videos of children preparing for and celebrating Diwali, the festival of light.
In maths this week we have been ordering, comparing, subsisting (the ability to instantly recall the number of objects or images without needing to count them individually) and 1-1, accurate counting to 3. The children found lots of different ways to represent numbers to 3. We also played lots of games that involved subitising, like feed the penguin.
