Autumn 2

Autumn Term 2

Week 1

I hope everyone had a great half - term holiday!

The week before the holidays, we had our School Council Elections where we had to choose the class representatives to be on the School Council. The vote was a secret ballot, with everyone choosing one boy and one girl. Before the vote , the candidates had to give a short speech saying why they would be the best person for the job. All the speeches were great, especially George's. His campaign slogan was ' Vote for me, I'm better than Boris'.

The two successful candidates were Alice and Rashid, with George and Imogen being understudies, incase either Alice or Rashed are not at school.

On the last day of term, we went on a school trip to Manor Lodge. What a fun day it was! The children were amazing and a credit to you! The children had 2 workshops , where they got to :

dress up in historical costumes

  • walk through a maze
  • talk to Bess of Hardwick
  •  match up remedies to Tudor illnesses
  • make their own inventory using a quill
  • make their own herbal potion to ward off any bad smells

The children were so well - behaved and showed how knowledgeable they were about Tudor history!

Water Resistance

We were given a very special scientific mission by the one and only 007 in Y5!  A request arrived for us to investigate the best boat shape to cross a river quickly. We were also asked to find out which object shape would travel from the surface to the river bed the fastest.

Forest School

Y5 used their problem solving skills to complete a maths challenge in Forest School.  They showed excellent team working skills to hunt for clues and find the answers that were hidden around the forest.

More Forest School! The children created Tudor shields and the famous Tudor ship called the Mary Rose!

Christmas Cards for Carehomes

We've been getting festive in Varjak Paws - take a look at our dancing penguin cards! We applied our learning in science about mechanisms and made Christmas cards that use levers. Next week, a group of Y5s are visiting two different care homes in the local community to sing some carols and we will be handing the cards to the residents while we are there.
