The children have enjoyed a fantastic first day back celebrating the Mexican festival 'Day of the Dead'. They have been busy in the creative zone making traditional Xocolatl and comparing this to hot chocolate, decorating our classroom with intricate Papel Picado and drawing traditional sugar skulls known as calaveras.
During iPad week, we learnt how to create stop motion animation. We used the Stop Motion app to create our videos and the voiceover tool on iMovie to narrate our 'Sound Sailor' poems.
- Week 2 -
In Literacy, we have been busy writing recounts of our dia de los muertos celebrations! We have been learning how to use adverbials to add detail to our writing.
Aslans have enjoyed using the new atlases today in geography. We've been learning about continents, countries and capitial cities. We also really enjoying zooming around the world using Google Earth and looking at Mexico in different scales.
In Spanish this half term, we will be learning about food. Today we listened to two stories el ratón glotón (the greedy mouse) and la oruga muy hambrienta (the very hungry caterpillar).
Science - Making Magnet Games
- Week 3 -
This week, Y3 have started their exciting new Science topic, Light and Shadows. We started by looking at different objects and sorting them depending on whether or not they are a source of light - there were some tricky ones!
- Week 4 -
This week, we have been reading the Mexican folk story 'The Legend of the Poinsettia'. We will be finding out more about this Christmas plant in order to write an information text.

In Literacy, we have been busy drafting and editing our poinsettia fact files.
We have also been busy rehearsing and filming our performances ready for the KS2 Christmas production... watch this space!
- Week 6 -
This week, we received a very exciting visit and some unusual gifts.....flour, butter, baking powder, chocolate sauce....and a CHURROS MAKER!
- Week 7 -
In art, we have been learning how to draw poinsettia. We will be using our finished artwork to make our calendars.
