Google Classroom – Our New Online Learning Platform for Years 1 - 6

As we settle into our new school and develop the infrastructure for IT, we are always looking to make advancements in our practice, provision and safety. This includes the way we teach digital literacy to our pupils and the way they access digital content. We have invested heavily and continue to purchase iPads and Chromebooks for our pupils to use in school. We have also created Google accounts for all our pupils (this is not an email address) from Y1 to Y6, managed within school by our Computing leaders. By creating Google accounts for our pupils, we are able to manage and monitor individual password protected access to personal accounts that pupils can use to access the WPS curriculum online, all the time teaching the pupils relevant digital literacy skills whilst helping to keep them safe.

In the event that the school is forced to close a bubble or children are unable to attend school due to the need to self-isolate, Google Classroom will be the way we send out work/activities for the children to complete at home.

Google Classroom offers the opportunity for paperless communication between teachers, parents and pupils. Children can access Google Classroom either at https://classroom.google.com or by downloading the free app available on iOS or Android. take a look at our Google Classroom page on the school website by clicking here

We have now created pupil accounts for all pupils and class teachers have been busy getting to grips with the platform to post this week’s home learning (assignments) within their Google classroom which you can access and have a go at this weekend. There are different ways that you can complete the work online. When you have completed the work, you can attach your uploaded photos and/or annotated work digitally for your teacher to see.

Today, you will receive your child’s personal login details for Google Classroom as well as a Parent guide with more help on accessing and submitting work. Staff will be able to give you personalised feedback on your child’s home learning and will update assignments (CLIC and spellings) in Google Classroom weekly. You can also view the Parent Guide here.

If you have any issues with accessing your child’s account or with completing or submitting work please refer to the Parent Guide or contact us at enquiries@walkley.sheffield.sch.uk and one of the IT team will get back to you.
