Yello Heat Health Alert

Dear Parents and Carers,

You will know that the UK Health Security Agency has issued amber weather warnings as temperatures are set to be high. The approach recommended by the DfE is the approach we will be taking which is to plan in advance to keep everyone safe. As such Year 4s planned trip to Rivelin Valley on Wednesday has been cancelled. Please do support school by ensuring your children arrive to school prepared for the rise in temperatures. We recommend the following:

• Please ensure your children bring sun hats and water bottles to school.

• Ensure they have applied sun cream before they leave for school.

• Dress children in lightweight and suitable clothing for this weather.

We will share the following guidance with pupils over the coming days:

What you can do to keep cool

  • Keep hydrated. Make sure you keep your water bottle full and drink regularly.
  • Make sure you have applied sun cream and wear a sun hat outside.
  • Wear loose, light fitting clothes rather than your sweatshirt.
  • Remain calm and walk not run.
  • At break and lunchtime, make use of shaded areas if outside.

What we will do to help you keep cool

  • We will have indoor play at lunchtime if required.
  • We will monitor exposed areas such as Tennyson Yard and close if necessary.
  • We will take regular hydration breaks in class and encourage all pupils to drink water.
  • We will encourage pupils to go to covered areas when outside.
  • We will open windows, close blinds and plan lessons carefully.

We will monitor our mitigations during the day and adapt accordingly. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. Kind regards,

Top
