This week the Borrowers class performed for parents and children to showcase their amazing violin skills. They did so well and have learned so much!
Music Performance 1
Monday 6th February 2023 - Y3B Violins, Y4 Samba and Pathways Violins
Our amazing artworks of portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo have been completed! We painted our tonal wash background, then took Frida inspired photos in the forest school, before finally adding detail and compiling all aspects together. The results are phenomenal!
We have also been working really hard at finishing our computing projects this week. We composed pieces of music that we thought would fit the mood of Mariokart and then changed the tempo to suit the different clips that we used. I have compiled all of the projects into one clip and I'm sure you will agree that they are very professional!

The Aslans and Borrowers joined together for an 'Explorers' trip to the forest school. We made dens to protect us in the Amazon Rainforest and role played the characters of The Explorer. We may have even met Frida Kahlo along the way!

Learning Logs - A Rainforest in a Box...
This week's Learning Log activity was a 'Make'. You were certainly on the ball with this one! What an amazing set of 'Rainforests in Boxes' you brought in for us. We had rivers, waterfalls, trees, grass, bushes, snakes, a hiding peacock, macaws, tigers, monkeys, piranhas, hedgehogs, spiders, a rhinoceros beetle, an elk(?!), sloths (obviously!) even the aeroplane from 'The Explorer'! Please enjoy looking at your creations...
This week we have been planning and sketching out our Frida inspired self portraits. We looked at some of Frida's portraits and thought about aspects that we wanted to 'borrow' for our own. We then sketched those out and annotated our sketches to give reasons for our choices. I think our paintings next week will look incredible!
In maths, we have moved on to multiplication using arrays. Sing along with the song here and have a go at the interactive arrays here

In reading this week, we have been reading the lyrics to the song 'A world of Colour' about Frida Kahlo, and comparing the lyrics to the non fiction text that we read last week. We learnt the song and then performed in our own music video. I'm sure you won't be able to tell which one is from the official musical!

This week we have started reading our new class book, The Explorer, by Katherine Rundell. What an exciting first chapter! We have done some drama work around the story and then worked together to story map the action of the dramatic beginning. We can't wait to read more!
Katherine Rundell reading from The Explorer
Watch the wonderful Katherine Rundell read an extract from The Explorer. "The Explorer by Katherine Rundell is the best Amazon adventure since Journey to the River Sea. A bold, beautiful celebration of hearts with claws" - Lauren St John "Katherine Rundell just gets better and better. I loved The Explorer.
In computing, we used Chrome Music Lab to create musical loops. We had a lot of fun and created some great tunes. Have a go on Chrome Music Lab at home here
In art, we have continued looking at the works of Frida Kahlo and focused on her use of colour. We explored the colour wheel and identified complementary colours. We then mixed these to create shades of brown as we had seen in Frida's paintings

What a fantastic start to the New Year! The children have been publishing their Diary Entries of The Matador. I'm sure you will be blown away by the quality of their writing!
This term in computing, we are looking at how to use digital media to create music. We started by evaluating different music genres and then discussing how music is used to produce drama and tell a story.
