This week, we had a visit from a lady from Skipping School. They are a company who promote skipping around the city and they also host lots of competitions. We learnt many different types of skips. We learnt the single bounce, the double bounce and we even learnt how to hop while skipping. Later on in the year, we will take some of the Y2’s to a city competition to compete against other schools.
Citizenship
This week, we have been learning about the different stages of life for a human. We talked been a baby, a child, a teenager, an adult and an elderly person. We discussed what benefits there are to each stage of life and what disadvantages there were too. We then drew and wrote the best things about been certain ages and the worst things about been certain ages.
History
This week, we continued our learning on Emmeline Pankhurst. We recapped all the facts which we knew about her. Then, we all made a poster to say why woman should get the vote. After, we had made all the posters we pretended to be the suffragettes demonstrating in London. Take a look at our demonstration march in the phots below.
Recorders
This week, was our last week of having recorder lessons. We had two practices on Wednesday, to make sure we were ready for our performance. I think you will agree that the children were absolutely fabulous playing their recorders. All the children watched Mr Martin (the music teacher) and followed his lead playing the tunes.
Art
This term, we are learning all about drawing. A couple of weeks ago we looked at how layering your drawing with different strength pencils can give it a close up and distant effect. Last week, we learnt about different types of shading with different strength pencils. This week, we put all the skills which we had learnt together to create a black and white drawing of Mount Fuji.

Week 3
PE
This week, we have continued our learning about sending and receiving. However, this week, we practiced sending the ball with our foot and we stopped the ball using our feet too. We learnt how to kick the ball with the inside of our foot to give it maximum control. We made sure we were ready to receive the ball by making sure we kept on our toes in case the ball did not go straight to us.
History
This week, we continued our learning on Emmeline Pankhurst and we discussed how woman were treated before the war in 1914. We looked at statements about woman and we worked out if they were from before the war or from today’s times.
Maths
This week, we have been learning all about money. We have looked at all the coins and had chance to play with them and use them in our learning. We have looked at the value of coins and notes. We then answered questions in our book where we had to add money up.

Week 2
Maths
This week, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have learnt about all the properties of these shapes. We found out, 2D shapes have sides, vertices and that they are flat so cannot be picked up. 3D shapes have edges, vertices, flat faces and curved surfaces. We learnt the names for the shapes as well.
History
This half term, we will be learning influential people which changed the world positively. This week, we learnt all about the suffragettes. We discovered Emmeline Pankhurst was famous for helping woman get the vote who were over 30 in 1918, and in 1928 woman got the same rights as men regarding voting.
Recorders
We are all really looking forward to our recorder performance on 31st January. We have been rigorously practicing and are super excited about the performance. We will be doing four songs for you and this week we have perfected the first two.
Art
This half term, we are learning all about the artist Hokusai who is famous for The Great Wave. We found out about different pencil and how light and dark they can be. We used these different pencils to create layers in our picture. We used a 6B pencil, a 3B, pencil and then a school pencil. Our shading got lighter and lighter to give it an effect. We all did an amazing job. Take a look below.

Welcome to our Spring 1 blog page. It’s great to everyone back at school and I hope everyone had a fabulous break!
PE
This week, we started our new unit of sending and receiving. We learnt how to roll a ball using the correct technique. We put the ball in our dominant hand, stepped with our opposite foot, looked at the target and released the ball with our finger tips pointing at the target. Everyone did really well and everyone was extremely accurate.
RE
This half term, we will be learning all about Islam. We learnt about the five pillars of Islam and found many interesting facts. We found out, that people who follow Islam and called Muslims. Another fact we found out was Muslims go to a Mosque. We learnt that Muslims pray five times a day too. We are very excited to explore Islam more, in coming weeks.
Citizenship
We leant about families this week. We talked about how families can change when babies are born and when family members move away. We talked about our families and what makes them unique. After, we discussed what activities we like to do as a family. We came up with many ideas such as: baking, walking, cycling, reading books, playing board games and going on holiday just to name a few.
English
This week, we have been learning about comparisons. We read Little Red Riding Hood and we read, The Wolf’s Story. The Wolf’s story is the same story but told from the Wolf’s point of view. We discussed what was similar in the story and what was different about the stories. The next day, we wrote some questions to find out if the wolf was telling the truth or if he was lying. Then, we got the chance to ask the wolf the questions we had prepared. In the end, we all thought that the wolf was not telling the truth and his story was a lie.
