We read the story of 'The Bog Baby'. In the story, the 2 girls didn't tell the truth. They went to the woods without telling their Mum. This sparked a conversation in Caterpillars about the importance of telling the truth and being honest. We talked about making the right and wrong choices and how they affect others. We know telling the truth and not lying should be what we do every day.
Physical Development
In PE we have started our gymnastics unit, based around Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have learned shapes and balances and have enjoyed making a sequence - travel, shape, balance. They have used various equipment to replicate travelling to and around the giant’s castle, carefully balancing on the beanstalk and leaves.
Literacy
We read the story of 'The Bog Baby'. We were so excited to make our own Bog Babies, but so upset when we got back from Golden Book Assembly to find out they were missing! We made missing posters and wrote all about our Bog Babies to describe them to everyone so they could help us find them.
We had a great time celebrating World Book Day. We wrote our own version of 'Press Here'. We are proudly displaying our book in the reading area on our book shelf.
Look at our fabulous costumes!
Y3 came to read with us. It was so lovely to listen to their stories and read them our reading books.
Maths
We have been looking at more, fewer and equal amounts. The Caterpillars stood behind me and they could hide. When I stood behind them I couldn't hide. They decided it was because I was bigger. This was the same with our Numberblock towers. The bigger numbers couldn't hide behind others. We played a game with a pizza. The Caterpillars closed their eyes and I put some toppings on a place, they had to decide if there was more, fewer or an equal amount to the previous amount.
Understanding the World
For our R.E, we went on a walk to look at signs of Spring... yes... we didn't find many in February, but we did find some daffodils starting to grow and daisies up on Tennyson Field. We talked about the seasons and what we expected to change.
We built a Bug Hotel to see if any minibeasts want to move in! We collected sticks from the forest whilst having a look at Mr Butler's fantastic creation for some inspiration. We will use our minibeast check lists over the coming weeks to see if we find any signs of life.
We looked at where milk came from along with jobs on the farm. All the children had a go at making banana milkshakes (and dairy free ones). The children loved this activity and most of them enjoyed the milkshake.

Our listening walk
For our understanding the world this week, we went on a listening walk and discussed what we had heard when we got back.
Expressive Art and Design
We are leaning about sculpture. We made Bog Babies using clay. We used sculpting tools and calved our Bog Babies to look exactly how we wanted them too. We are so proud of them and loved putting the finished ones into our Bog Baby world.
We made mini beasts using junk modelling. We thought carefully about how to make the body, head and legs. As well as attaching it all together. We chose colours for a purpose and loved the finished result.
Making Fossils
For our Art this week, we had a go at making our own fossils in forest school using clay, dinosaurs and shells.
