Spring 2

Thank you, Charlies, for all your hard work this half term - your are all amazing!

Enjoy your two week break and, if you celebrate, enjoy the Easter festivities.

Week 5

This week, in our art lesson, we explored manipulating clay to make a bases for our maquette sculptures. We rolled, squeezed, pressed and pinched the clay, added texture and joined pieces together using slip. Next step, creating the maquette figures themselves.

Our dance lessons with Dazzle Dance Amy for this half term came to an end this week. Our groups performed their final piece, inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and here they are...

Red Nose Day.

Red Nose Day was marked in school on Friday - thank you for all of your generous donations!

As part of the day, the Charlies and the Chayas held a competition; 5 sheets of A4 paper, a little sticky tape, and a dollop of ingenuity - who can build the tallest tower?

Turns out it was the Charlies, with Anya and Pippa's tower reaching a very respectable 1m tall!

Week 4

For our Classwide Reward, the children were able to choose PE equipment to take up to Tennyson. It was a beautiful afternoon, as witnessed by the spectacular photographs.

This week we have had a well known author, Bethan Woollvin coming into school. She read one of her books, Robin Hood. The children had to make a collage of one of the scenes from the story. How exciting!

Week 3

In our gymnastics, we have been practising individual balances, partner balances and turning our balances into a sequence.

In our History lessons, we have been discussing the different groups that made up Anglo - Saxon society. The children were allocated a group and had to explain what their life was like.

Continuing with the history of the Anglo - Saxons, we have been learning about their daily life. This involved learning about the jobs they did, their runic alphabet, illnesses and treatments and their love of riddles!

Week 2

One of the highlights of this week was today's celebration of World Book Day. The Charlies class was full of characters who had escaped from some of the books we have read, from Beowulf, to Harry and Hermione, and Dick from the Famous 5, along with two Cinderellas and a Spider Man!

We discussed a book from the 20th Century, after reading the opening two pages - '1984', by George Orwell - and we shared the first chapters of three books by a new-to-us author, Polly Ho-Yen. They each had a child as the main character, in different scenarios. Of the three books, the one we enjoyed the most was a fantasy, 'The Girl Who Became a Fish'. Here's a link to Polly's website, where you can find out more;

Today has been a great opportunity to celebrate writing, books and reading.

Week 1

I hope you had a lovely holiday. The children have made a great start to Spring 2 half - term.

In our Science lesson this week, we have investigated circuits - cells/batteries, wires and components (bulbs, motors and buzzers).

In gymnastics we have been practising different balances.

In our Literacy, we have been starting a new unit on poetry. The children were able to identify different type of poems - acrostic, haiku and tanka. The children were able to perform the poems and clap out the syllables.

In our History, as part of our Anglo - Saxon topic, we have been learning about Vortigern , the High King of the Britons. The children had to look at different types of evidence and decide whether they were primary or secondary and how trustworthy each source was.
