We enjoyed our walk to st.Bart,s church this week. We made masks and learned about the Christian celebration of Easter.
What an exciting day! We designed our own leaf to represent what was special to us about living in Yorkshire. We drew this onto a paper leaf which we then glued to a lion cub! We will have to look out for our special Walkley lion cub around Yorkshire this summer! We had some great ideas, what was special to you?
In maths this week we are learning about weight. We used balances to talk about which item was heavier or lighter, can you compare objects at home?
We had a lovely day for Red Nose Day today. We designed red noses. We played stick the red nose on the teacher. We tried to get a red nose into a bucket and we managed to get ours 1.11 m away.. Unfortunately, the Jolly posties got their nose over 2 m. Well done to them. We also got onto stage with our carrot microphone and told our jokes. What a lovely funny, silly day. Well done to everyone!
In PE we have been doing striking and fielding. When fielding it is important to chase past the ball and then get down low to catch it. We worked hard with our fielding skills. We then had a go at catching a tennis ball. Only three children could manage to catch the ball today. We are definitely going to keep practising at home.
In music we listened to a famous older song called why don’t you by Peggy Lee then listened to a modern remixed version of it. Half the class liked the older version whilst half preferred the modern version.
In maths this week we are looking at measurements. We have talked about longer and shorter and begun to measure the length of objects using non standard measures such as cubes, then we will use centremetres with a ruler next. Can you measure items at home?
PE:We learned different types of gymnastic positions: pike, tuck, star, straddle, dish, arch. Can you demonstrate these to your parents? Which is the trickiest and why? Can you practise to get strong muscles for next week?
We loved having the famous author/illustrator Bethan Woolvin visit our school today! She read her story called Robin Hood which is a twist on the traditional story. She showed us how to draw super illustrations. What did you enjoy?
On our last day in Forest school, we took advantage of the beautiful view from the old Tennyson yard to look across Sheffield and try to spot Human and Physical Geography. If you’re not sure what it is, ask your child. The year 1s are absolute experts in telling the difference. They found fields, woods, factories, roads and lots of houses. Afterwards, we went into our forest and looked for signs of Spring.
In science, we explored what material would be best for an umbrella. We tried metal, paper, clothes and plastic. We had to make a prediction which material would be best. Then we poured water on the material to see if it would work well as an umbrella.
In PE, we went in the hall and did some Under arm and over arm, throwing with the beanbags. Then we had a little go at playing rounders with one person throwing the beanbag really far and the rest of us acting as fielders.
In the forest school, we did some crayon rubbing on our trees. Do you like our patterns?
RE - went ordered the story of Easter from the Christian bible. We discussed what their emotions would be at different points of the story. What can you remember of the story?
What an exciting day! The farm visited our school today and we loved meeting all the animals! Which was your favourite? The sheepdog Meg was very clever, can you remember what she did? What were the names of the baby animals?
We had a great time in forest school doing maths. We had a challenge to make a 2D or even 3D shape with a partner using sticks and string. We were. Dry impressed with your perseverance and shapes!
In computing we have been exploring using our beebots. We have learnt the controls and how to make the Bee-Bot do as it is told.
World Book Day
We brought some amazing books in for World Book Day. We also had some amazing book characters in our class!
We love Walkley library! We were very excited to go on an adventure up the big hill to Walkley library. We explored the library with our own private tour then learned a lot about how they organise books, how we can borrow books for FREE and different types of books. Best of all we had chance to explore with our friends and read our favourite books!
In RE we learned the Christian story of Easter and Palm Sunday from the Bible. We made our own palm leaves and pretended to wave them to welcome Jesus like in the story.
Super dancing everyone! We all enjoyed the disco at school this afternoon including yummy snacks and even a crafting station!
