This week in Citizenship we looked at the emotion, fear. We thought about how we might make our fears funny so that they didn’t seem so scary anymore.
Me and My Fear | A Wonderful Story about Independence
We all have fears and fears keep us safe. But sometimes our fear grows so big that it stops us from having fun, embarking on adventures and experiencing life. It can make us lonely, scared and insecure.
In PE, we took advantage of the first signs of spring and went to play a quick game of tag rugby on the top field. We learned about how to throw, using the W technique and had a great game of tag using the tag belts.

In English we finished our letters to Cadburys to plead with them to start using sustainable palm oil. We will send these letters and hope that we can make a difference to the grate the the orangutangs and other species that are losing their habitats due to palm oil plantations.
We have started a new focus in English and did some research on sloths using national geographic. We will use this research to write informative reports.
In computing we have started to compile information to create our own top trump games. We played a few rounds first to familiarise ourselves with the format.
We will use the Yorkshire Wildlife Park website to help us compile our database.

Week 2
Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!
In citizenship we were focusing on the emotions, happiness and calm. We created a jar of happiness that we can use when we need cheering up. We then used an art therapy technique to be mindful and find our calm.
In geography we have been learning about some of the tribes that live in the Amazon Rainforest. We learned some traditional hunting methods and tried to hunt our dinner.
Happy World Book Day from the Borrowers!
We had a fantastic time at the Halle Orchestra today!

This week we got the bows out when using the violins. We tried hard to keep the bows level and play the different notes.
In English, we have started learning 'There's a Rang-tan in my Bedroom' as we plan to write letters to palm oil companies to ask them to stop cutting down the rainforest. We worked in groups to learn the poem and then performed with fluency. Everyone in the Borrowers feels very passionate about the plight of the orangutans so I am sure they will produce some amazing letters.

In Geography, we used The Rainforest Book, and the iPads to research how humans benefit from the rainforests. We worked in partners and created informative fact sheets.
In citizenship we are continuing our work on emotions. We focused on anger and created toolkits to help us manage this big emotion that we all feel. Have a go at the crafting activity at home.
The Anger Shed: Hidden Emotions
Make 'angry dolls' out of toilet paper rolls (you might paint them red, draw on angry faces with markers and glue on some googly eyes). Think about a time you felt angry. Sometimes, there are other emotions hiding underneath our anger - like fear, powerlessness embarrassment, shame, sadness, loneliness, rejection, disappointment, anxiety, overwhelm, guilt, envy...
In PE we have started playing Tag Rugby. We learned how to pass the ball skilfully and safely.
In reading we are reading The Emerald Forest by Catherine Ward. We summarised the plight of the Orangutan’s journey throughout the story using captions and illustrations.
