~ Week 2 Aslans ~
This week in Aslans we have continued to learn about Ancient Greece. In guided reading we have been reading a non-fiction text about Ancient Greece. In writing we have been focusing on a text about Medusa and started writing our own character descriptions. The pupils have come up with some fantastic vocabulary!
In art we have continued our printing topic - learning about artist Delita Martin. We drew a minotaur ready to create our mono prints next week!
Our class story at the moment is "Icarus Was Ridiculous" by Pamela Butchart. We have enjoyed reading a silly take on a Greek myth!
~ Week 3 ~
This week in PE we have continued practicing our skills in tennis and cricket. We have enjoyed our time outside in the sun!
We also finished our mono prints of a minotaur and had lots of fun in the creative zone! Aslans are enjoying learning all about Delita Martin.
~ Week 4 ~
This weeks in maths we have been focusing on fractions. We explored adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. We used practical resources to consolidate our understanding.
In art we used block prints to create repeating patterns! We were inspired by Ancient Greek ceramics and the techniques used by Delita Martin.
Greek Day!
In Aslans we had a great time learning about Ancient Greece. We made our own vases using oil pastels and black paint. Once they were dry we scratched away the paint to reveal beautiful patterns.
We went outside and looked for the answers to our Greek Quiz that were hanging in the trees.
Mrs Hall and Ms Murgatroyd spoke about Athens and Sparta and we voted for our preferred city state! In Aslans we voted for Sparta!
We ended the day learning about the myth Trojan Horse!
~ Week 5 ~
This week we continued writing our own version of the Greek myth King Midas. Instead of turning things to gold we have written narratives in which our protagonists turn everything to rubies, silver, diamonds and even chocolate!
In PE we made the most of the sunshine when practising our cricket skills. Everyone in Aslan class displayed wonderful team work and took turns being the batter, bowler, wicket keeper and fielders!
~ Week 6 ~
This week Aslan class have been working hard in art practising printing before we create our Ancient Greek inspired final piece based on techniques used by artist and printer Delita Martin.
In English, we have started a new book, Gaia Goddess of the Earth. We have been working on collaboration and started by drawing what Gaia’s creation looked like.
A huge well done to our advanced cheerleaders as they performed their final routine to all KS2 children and parents this week. Thank you Amy, for all your hard work and brilliant routines taught to our wonderful cheerleaders!
