Summer 1

Week 3

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week in the Hiccups!

Forest School

The Hiccups have had a wonderful week in forest school this week enjoying the sunshine and taking part in lots of exciting activities.

Our first forest school session of the week was related to our Geography work. We had a quick lesson about 6 figure grid references in the classroom then headed up to the forest to draw a map of the forest space, trying to accurately plot what was there.

For our second outing to forest school we used our DT knowledge of frame structures to build bridges using sticks and string. Some of us even managed to build bridges strong enough to hold ourselves!

For our final forest school session Hiccups had a go at Tataki-Zome - a Japanese art form where natural colours from plants are transferred to fabric by hammering. We loved creating different colourful designs and patterns with leaves and flowers!

Week 2

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week in the Hiccups class!

We learnt new coding skills in computing! We used a computer program to control ‘crumbles’ and learnt how to program the crumble to make an LED light flash and change colour.

Y5/6 Cheerleading – Octagon Dance Performance

Wow! What a performance. A huge well done to all our Y5 & 6s who took part in the dance show. Not only did you look like professionals but you were all so enthusiastic, happy and smiley while performing. You made Walkley proud! Thank you parents for joining us – I hope you are feeling just as proud!

Octagon Dance_ Y5/6 Cheerleading_ 2025

In our art lesson this week we practised print making using polystyrene. We based our designs on the work of William Morris and Molly Mahon.

In RE we discussed our different beliefs and how our beliefs affect how we behave and make decisions.
