Week 6

Here’s what we’ve been doing this week in the Hiccups!

Y5 Hiccups Space Dance Summer 1

Here is the Hiccups Space-themed dance!
Well done to you all, you have all worked so hard and created some incredible dances! You should be so proud of yourselves!

Hiccups Music - Dancing in the Street

Here is the song we have been learning this half term - Dancing in the Street! The first part of the video is one of our first practices, with the video ending on our final performance!

Class Wide Reward! On Thursday afternoon we went to Tennyson yard for some activities including disco, football, skipping and parachute games!

In Art we used our Lino to make our final prints! We practised in our books first, then printed onto fabric, using different colours variations.

Geography fieldwork! We walked down to the grass banking above Langsett road to conduct our traffic survey! We saw lots of different modes of transport and got lots of waves from passers by!

Week 5
Here’s what we’ve been doing this week!

This week in computing we coded crumbles to power motors! We found out we could control the speed, direction and time the propellor spun for.

In Geography we have been focusing on grid references. This week we used digi-maps, we followed instructions to find different locations and answer questions about transport.

In Art we cut our Lino ready to do our print making. We had to be very careful using the tools to cut intricate designs into the Lino.

Week 4
Here’s what we’ve been getting up to in the Hiccups this week!

In maths we practised making nets for 3D shapes, labelling the number of faces, edges and vertices.

We practised more athletics events in PE, this time doing the javelin throw!

Week 3

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week in the Hiccups!

Hiccups - Street Child conscience-alley

Will Jim decide to stay in the workhouse or try to escape? Here are some of the Hiccups making a very important decision!

Forest School

The Hiccups have had a wonderful week in forest school this week enjoying the sunshine and taking part in lots of exciting activities.

Our first forest school session of the week was related to our Geography work. We had a quick lesson about 6 figure grid references in the classroom then headed up to the forest to draw a map of the forest space, trying to accurately plot what was there.

For our second outing to forest school we used our DT knowledge of frame structures to build bridges using sticks and string. Some of us even managed to build bridges strong enough to hold ourselves!

For our final forest school session Hiccups had a go at Tataki-Zome - a Japanese art form where natural colours from plants are transferred to fabric by hammering. We loved creating different colourful designs and patterns with leaves and flowers!

Week 2

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week in the Hiccups class!

We learnt new coding skills in computing! We used a computer program to control ‘crumbles’ and learnt how to program the crumble to make an LED light flash and change colour.

Carving designs into polystyrene to print patterns with ink in art

Y5/6 Cheerleading – Octagon Dance Performance

Wow! What a performance. A huge well done to all our Y5 & 6s who took part in the dance show. Not only did you look like professionals but you were all so enthusiastic, happy and smiley while performing. You made Walkley proud! Thank you parents for joining us – I hope you are feeling just as proud!

Octagon Dance_ Y5/6 Cheerleading_ 2025

In our art lesson this week we practised print making using polystyrene. We based our designs on the work of William Morris and Molly Mahon.

In RE we discussed our different beliefs and how our beliefs affect how we behave and make decisions.
