Computing. We have been exploring our algorithms again and created different algorithms to let our beebots explore a far away land.
Science: Today we had some scientists come to help us make some slime! We all had our safety goggles on ready to measure, mix and make. Our challenge was to see who had the stretchiest slime.
Art: Final Products! Fully painted horizon that the children have been creating
Art: In our recent art lessons we have been looking at Background and Foreground. We used our mixing skills to create different shades of green to paint our Sheffield hillside. Following this, we then added in small details such as pylons, houses, factories and Walkley school. Keep an eye out for the children’s lovely art!
Forest School: Geography themed. Today we used are spotting skills to tick off different leaves on our checklist that we found in the forest. After, we gathered the leaves on the ground and other natural resources to create our own Mandalas.
Forest School: Geography Themed. Despite our rainy wet weather we persevered up to Forest School where we made our own cities, towns and villages using sticks leaves and rocks. The children were able to accurately describe their areas and even name them! Groups then “travelled” ,by car bike train or bus, to the other places made and the children described them to their friends.
Forest School: Maths Themed. Today we ordered events, stories and even made our own sandwiches using our mathematical language of First, Then and Now. First we get our bread, then our variety of fillings chosen by the children, now we added our other piece bread!
Forest School. The horizon of Sheffield at the top of Walkley School: the children’s artwork
Forest School Art. In forest school today we all went up to the top hill to draw the horizon of Sheffield, we filled our pages and focused on the background and foreground. The hills, trees, and Walkley school were a big part of our drawings, keep an eye out for children’s artwork!
Citizenship. In Citizenship we have been learning about our school rules, how to make Walkley a happier place and how to solve problems if they occur. The children have made a top tip video for you to enjoy!
In computing we have been planning instructions to help create algorithms for our beebots
In geography, we have been looking at capital cities, cities, towns and villages. We have been discussing what we would expect to see in cities, towns and villages.
In PE we had been doing Animal dances with Miss Burton. We have been moving our body in controlled ways.
Music. We have been amazing using out glockenspiels and picking out the correct note at the right time time with the backing music.
Science. In science, we took a plant out of the pot to look at its roots. We had an explore of the plant. Then we did some cutting and sticking to make our own plants and label the parts.
In art this week we have practised colour mixing and then mixing different shades of green. What made it lighter or darker?
We loved learning about different kinds of art this week. We had a go at outdoor painting with magic paint and different tools to create our own art. Which did you like best and what did you create?
In citizenship we explored how we make a happy school. We talked about what we liked about our school and we talked about how lucky we feel to be here. Today we ordered the things of school needs to be a nice place. We all had different ideas, but we ordered rules, kindness, fun, play, hard, work, listening, and thoughtfulness. What do you think a school needs to be a nice place to learn?
In computing we have carried on using our Bee-Bot. Today we use the Bee-Bot app to program are robots to try to get to the flower. We had lots of fun.
In science, we planted our mystery seed. We agreed that you needed soil sunlight and water to grow plants. We also all realised that not every seed will grow. Over the next five weeks, we will observe a plant and see how it is growing. What do you think our seed will grow into?
In maths, we have been learning about capacity. We use the little beakers to Measure the capacity of objects. We found the largest capacity object and then the smallest capacity thing.
Our year four reading buddies came to read with us. We had a lovely time reading our read, writing books, our corridor books, and also our new read recommended reads.
In English we have continued our work on ‘Man on the moon’. We made a traverse talking line to order the story and had scrambled up sentences to put into the right order.
In maths we continued to look at measurements, we found full, empty, half full, nearly empty. It was surprising which containers had the greatest and ,east capacity! Can you have. A try at home, perhaps at bath time!
