Summer 1 South American Adventure

Welcome back Aslans!

This week, we have started reading our brilliant new class book, The Explorer. We have been using our drama skills to act out the dramatic first chapter of the story - The Flight - and have been making inferences about the different character's thoughts and feelings.

You can re-listen to the author, Katherine Rundell, reading the first chapter of the book by clicking HERE.

In Maths, we have been learning how to measure and calculate perimeter. We were set a puzzling perimeter problem to investigate using tiles....

In Geography, we have been learning about tropical rainforests. We learnt about the different layers which make up the rainforest and which animals live in each layer.

A young, hungry native attempts to steal food from an explorer's camp in the jungle. Unfortunately, he falls into a trap and is captured as a trophy to go back to England.  The tribesman is clever enough to escape - much to the surprise of the hunter. A chase ensues and there can only be one winner! Who will it be?

One Voice Singing Festival

We are very excited to be taking part in the One Voice Singing Festival again this year.  On the 6th July, Y3 and Y5 will join a live stream to sing along with many other schools across the city.  The event will be recorded and compiled into a video of all the performances.  There are 5 songs to learn. After we have introduced a song in class, we will be posting it here for pupils to practise at home.  Here's the first song we have started to learn this week.  We hope you enjoy practising your singing at home!

Almost There

Here is the last song for this term.  You may recognise this one as it's from Disney's The Princess and the Frog.  It's a jazz song that celebrates perseverance.  There will be two more to learn next term so keep up the practice!
