Week 7

We have been learning about Mary Anning in guided reading this week. We challenged ourselves to saying the tongue twister written about her as fast as we could!

To continue our Extreme Earth Topic, today we learned about how volcanoes are formed. We acted out the process and then created our own volcanoes, with varying success!

In maths, we have been learning about volume and capacity. We used containers with different capacity to accurately measure volume. Have a go at the game for some additional practice. 

Week 6

This week we have been learning about the structure of our Earth and what lies way benath our feet. We made models using plasticine and then cut them in half to show the layers. We then drew detailed diagrams in our books. 

Week 5

This week in maths, we have been continuing our learning about money. Today we opened shops in our classroom and practised finding change from given amounts. Have a go at the game for some further practice.

We were so lucky to have a rocks expert come in and join us to explain the 3 different types of rocks. The children were so excited to handle lots of different types of rocks and see some amazing fossils. 

Don't forget our trip to see the Halle Orchestra on Friday. Please practice the song at home so that we can song really professional!

Week 4

In citizenship we are learning how to manage our emotions and feel our feelings. We thought about the things that made us happy and some of the things that make life a bit more difficult and illustrated our emotion maps. 

In music this week, we have been learning the melody of our disco song, Bringing us Together, on the glockenspiels and then having a go at improvising our own rhythms. 

In PE, we went up to the field to continue our learning about athletics. We practised relay races and then tried out different jumps, pusing ourselves to jump further each time!

In maths this week we are learning about money. Have a go at this game to practice making different amounts. 

Week 3

We have been writing persuasive adverts for a trip to Greece this week. The children have really enjoyed this game so maybe have a go at home and see if you can make the leaderboard!

We are still learning about fractions in maths so have a watch of the video to remind yourself of what fractions are. Have a go at this game to practice finding fractions of amounts. 

Week 2

Here are the amazing stop motion poems that the Borrowers completed last week! Beware, they went scary!

Wehave started a new disco tune in music this term. We learned the song and then sang our hearts out with some actions and awesome disco dance moves! (apologies, I'm a bit short for filming!)

Week 1

Groovy Greek Day!

What a day it has been! We have had so much fun traveeling back in time to ancient Greece for the day. Thanks you to all of your efforts with costumes. The children looked amazing and had a fantastic day!

We looked at Greek artefacts and created Greek pots using Scratch art.

We then learned about how the Greeks developed the idea of voting and democracy. We worked in teams to create a design for a new, improved, Walkley School uniform. We then used democratic voting to choose which one we would present. The winning team then presented their idea to Mr Clements to take to the school council, a very democratic and fair process!

We then revisited our English work on Medusa and created Medusa masks. Be careful not to look right at them!

We put all of our printing skills to work this week and created amazing final pieces in the style of our artist of study, Delita Martin. We used a combination of printing tecchniques to create layered and intricate prints, which look phenomenal!

As part of our publication of our amazing Pandora's Box poems, we made stop motion animations to bring our poems to life! We planned and created props, before working together to film our animations. Watch this space to see our completed animations...
