Summer 2

In art the Hiccups have been using chalk pastels to draw the planets in our solar system. The children experimented with different colours and blending to add detail and effect to their pictures.

For our final Forest School session, the Hiccups made flower seed bombs! The children needed to follow a set of instructions to make their seed ball which could later be thrown into their garden to scatter the seeds. Whilst one half of the class did this, the other half had a hunt to find and identify different flowers.

For our second Forest School session the Hiccups did a scavenger hunt! The children needed to find the different objects made from trees which were hidden around the forest, then decide which part of a tree was used to make it. Finally, we ordered a timeline of how trees have been used for different purposes since the Stone Age!

HSBC visited the Hiccups class on Thursday. We had a very interesting lesson learning about making sustainable choices.

For our final English unit we have been writing playscripts! First, we gained a good understanding of the essential parts of a playscript by getting into character and acting out scenes.

Forest school

It was Hiccups ' turn for Forest School this week. The aim was to see how bio - diverse our Forest is! We collected leaves and brought them back to the class, to see if we could match the leaves with their names. We found over 20 different leaves, which proves that even a small outdoor space can be bio - diverse!

We had a great time celebrating our class wide reward on Wednesday, we designed, made and launched our own water bottle rockets!

We have started a new DT unit on textiles. This week we practised some different kinds of stitches: straight stitch, back stitch, over stitch and blanket stitch.

To help us with our writing unit on the Solar System we did a scavenger hunt to search for information and used ipads and books to collect lots of facts to use when writing our non-chronological reports.

The Hiccups conducted a traffic survey this week as part of our fieldwork to find out what types of transport are most common in our area. We recorded a tally then converted the data into a bar graph to display our results.

Y5 visited Magna last week! We had a wonderful time exploring the different zones and gained lots of knowledge to begin our new topic of the Solar System.
