KS1 Sports Day

Week 5
P.E
This week, we have been learning how to use a tennis racket and how to control the ball when it is on the racket. We also practised our sports day events too. We practised by using the javelins and we did some sprinting races too.
Geography
This week, we have been learning about plastic and how it is effecting the world. We learnt that many things are made out of plastic and that plastic is extremely hard to get rid of. We know that we need to buy less plastic and also recycle the plastic we do buy. Also, we discussed how plastic in the ocean is harming lots of sea life.
English
This week, we have been rewriting the story of The Storm Whale. We have changed the characters and some of the animals too. We all had some great ideas and we are very excited to finish our writing next week.
Week 4
Maths
This week, we have been learning all about capacity and volume. We learnt about this practically. We did many different activities such as filling jugs to certain amounts, making potions with different coloured water and using teaspoons to measure amounts of water. We had a fantastic time and everyone did a great job.
Geography
Last week, we learnt all about Cardiff and what physical and human geography we could see. This week, we compared Cardiff to Trinidad and Tobago. We could see some similarities and lots of differences.
Art
This week, we have continued to work on our collage. We have used lots of different materials such as newspapers, magazines and paper. It is a big job so we will keep going and the end result will be amazing!
Week 3
Whirlow Farm
What an amazing few days we have all had at Whirlow Farm!
We all arrived and had our packed lunch in the beautiful garden of The Hall. After, we had a play and explored the incredible garden. Then, it was time for the farm tour. On the farm tour, we saw so many animals. We saw pigs and lots of tiny, cute piglets, we learnt all about what pigs eat and how it helps them to grow, a bull, we learnt about the vineyard and the orchard among many other things.
After the tour, we all played together on the amazing playing fields. We played with the parachute, played football and just enjoyed been out in the sun.
Next, we went back to our accommodation and made our pizzas and fruit salad. They were very tasty and they all looked fabulous too. Then, we went to the park which was just next to the garden and played there before we went back to put on our pajamas.
When we had all got ready for bed, we had our snack and had a story in the lounge.
Lastly, the children brushed their teeth and got into bed. They had some time to relax and read their book and then they all went to sleep.
In the morning, we all got up and did some colouring and drawing before we had our cereal, toast and yogurt for breakfast. Then, we packed up all our things and got a bit more time to play in the garden.

Week 1
Guided Reading
This week, we have been reading the Egg Box Dragon. We really enjoyed the book. On Tuesday, we acted out part of the story and on Friday we used our reading skills to read instructions to work out how to make an Egg Box Dragon.
Maths
This week, we have been learning about different measurements. We learnt about weight. We learnt how to balance scales and that the units of measurement are called grams and kilograms.
Science
This term, we are learning about plants. We planted lots of plants in different locations. Some had soil, some didn’t, some were able to get to light and some were put in a dark place. We will see how they all grow.
RE
This term, we will be learning about Islam and the Hajj. The Hajj is a special trip that Muslims go on. In our lesson this week, Sofia went on a special trip. She came with her suitcase and we found out that she was going to her grandma’s house on the train for a birthday party.
