Summer 2 - Extreme Earth

Week 5

Well done to our Golden Book winners of the week. You are all super stars and we are extremely proud of you!

This week we have been making our sandwiches in DT. We used our plans and chopped our veggies to make healthy sandwiches. We then went to the field for a sunny picnic. 

In reading, we have been working on our summarising skills. We created a timeline of the journey of the pebble so far and then wrote captions to recoard key events in the history of the natural Earth. 

We had a great time at our Kings Camp taster session!

In Geography we are learning about volcanoes. Have a go at this explosive experiment at home.

Week 4

In Citizenship, we have been celebrating Pride  Month by celebrating our differences and the things that make us who we are. We read the book Llama Glamarama and then drew pictures in our heart maps of the things that are significant and help to make us who we are.

We have been learning some techniques to help us feel calm, grounded and focused. Today we had a go at mirror drawing. 

We have been doing some amazing coding using Scratch in computing. We have learned how to program a sprite to move through a maze. 

In Geography we have been learning about techtonic plates. We created a tectonic plate jigsaw and placed it on water to show how the plates can shift and rub together, causing Earthquakes. Check out this link to learn more. 

In PE we are getting sports day ready with some jumping practice. We practised leaping, hopping and jumping to see how far we could go. 

Week 3

This week we have been continuing our super sandwich project in DT. We learned a variety of chopping techniques and then we carried out taste evaluations using our senses to inform our choices when designing our sandwiches. 

In Geography, we have been learning about the different layers that make up the Earth. We created plastercine models and then cut them in half to see how our Earth is made of multiple layers.

We have finished our first draft of our write about the Greek Goddess, Gaia. We worked in editing partners to improve and correct our writing and I’m sure you’ll agree that the writing is very impressive.

In Reading we have started reading The Iron Man. We used our forest school time to sketch the Iron Man as well as reading in the orchard.

What a great time we had in the forest school exploding a volcano using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We also took part in a quiz all about volcanoes.
